11/06/2016 - National Tryout Plus - Tampa, FL Ben continues to progress very well in this game, again showing improvements in his most recent outing with the Baseball Factory. On the mound, his control was his best asset, as he located 7 of his 10 pitches for strikes. He featured a low to mid 70's fastball that showed late tailing movement, a 10-4 breaking ball that sat in the mid 60's and a changeup which he showed a very good feel for. Mechanically, Ben kept his delivery simple and compact, which allowed him to repeat it well, as he found strong balance, showed very good direction to the plate, and a good stride/finish. In the outfield, he showed a promising arm and made accurate throws, along with solid range and efficient routes to the ball. Offensively, he showcased the ability to stay balanced and controlled throughout his swing, good tracking skills and a fully utilized lower 1/2, all of which helped him spray line drives across the field. Only a 2020 graduate, Ben shows great promise in this game, with still room to grow as a player.

05/08/2016 - National Tryout - Tampa, FL Ben is a solid/projectable (6'2"/170) RHP/OF who continues to develop. On the mound, this righty has worked hard and made great strides. Arm works cleanly as he stays directional toward the dish - repeating his delivery well. FB now tops out at 75 mph while showing some sink & run. Breaking ball has slider like spin with 9/3 shape. Even more velocity will come with more lower 1/2 drive off of the rubber. In the OF, Ben hustles to work into position behind the fly-ball. He gathers well and makes accurate throws with carry into his target. Offensively, this righty has a balanced setup with rhythm to load. Quick hands whip with barrel through the zone as he connects and looks to drive the middle of the field. More lower 1/2 drive and more extension through his finish will help to increase power. Ben is a solid athlete who has a ton of upside.

12/27/2015 - Baseball Factory Winter Classic - Session 2 Ben is a talented athlete who works hard day in and day out. He has leadership type qualities and makes everyone around him better. On the mound, this projectable righty has an effective 3-pitch mix coming from a 3/4 arm slot. He gets good glove-side lead, stays directional and finishes with extension. FB tops out at 69 mph while showing slight cut. Curveball shows 10/4 shape - 58-59 mph. He attacks the zone and can hit his spots well. He varies his looks with runners on, keeping them close. In the OF, Ben puts his athleticism on display. He moves quickly and covers ground with speed. Exchange is smooth with accurate throws into his target. Offensively, Ben stands in well with centered balance and rhythm in his hands. He barrels the ball up with some pop, creating backspin and driving it to the gaps. Even more power potential is there with more use of his lower 1/2. Ben has a high ceiling and a very bright future ahead of him.

11/01/2015 - Interactive Video Program - Tampa, FL Ben is a talented 2-way player (RHP/OF) who has a tall/projectable frame (6'2"/155). On the mound, this righty has an effective 3-pitch mix coming from a high 3/4 arm slot and loose/free arm action. He works to a tall balance point, stays directional and repeats his delivery well. FB ranges from 68-70 mph while showing slight tail. Curveball has 11/5 shape with gradual action. Changeup has run with good feel - complimenting his FB well. In the OF, Ben shows active footwork and is aggressive to track down fly-balls. He secures the ball with 2-hands and makes accurate throws into his target. With the bat, this RHH shows a balanced set with patience, waiting for his pitch. He engages his lower 1/2 well throughout the swing spraying the ball to all parts of the field. Overall abilities in his game will improve with work on the following.

Pitching
1. Arm strength (long toss)
2. More lower 1/2 drive
3. Extension on finish
Defense
1. Routes/angles
2. Work behind the ball
3. Play through the ball
Offense
1. Load
2. Level out swing path
3. Finish with extension

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
