10/12/2008 - College PREP - Baltimore, MD Ben is a young two way player as a catcher and at 3B. He has a solid, strong looking body. Foot speed is well below average and needs to improve for the next level. Behind the plate, exchange and transfer are quick and efficient and work ahead of his feet causing him to rush his throws. Arm strength is below average and needs to get on a strict long toss program to aid in building more arm strength and lowering pop times. Receiving and blocking skills are near average. In the infield, Bleyer has near average defensive abilities. He gets his body in front of the baseball and looks all balls in. He does need to be more active with his feet in coming to get and playing through the baseball with his feet and hands. At the plate, Ben has near average ability and power. He has balance in his approach and swing but flies open creating a rotational type swing. Swing path is long and hitting grades will improve with instruction and adjustments at the plate. Bleyer has abilities with time and room to improve.
