10/18/2017 - Arizona Junior Fall Classic Ben is a player who can do it all at any spot on the field, using impressive tools to make a big impact for his team. His cannon arm fits right in at third or short as he makes long throws with ease to complete tough plays. He shows great range with first step quickness and agility to get to almost everything. He works through the ball with good angles to move towards his target and make strong, accurate throws. He can swing it at the dish, spraying frozen ropes to all fields with a strong lower half and good balance. He has the look of a leadoff hitter with his contact ability, knowledge of the strike zone and speed. He plays with a lot of confidence and has a high baseball IQ. Ben is a player who definitely has a bright future in the game.

07/17/2017 - College PREP - Minneapolis, MN Ben is an athletic, lean 3B who has a promising future on the diamond. Foot speed is above average as indicated by his 60 time of 7.20. At the plate is where he shows best, displaying well above average hitting / power potential through an athletic setup. Hands are quick (83 mph exit velocity) and work inside the ball, utilizing all fields with gap-to-gap pop. Power will continue to increase as he utilizes his lower half more efficiently. At 3B, he displays quick / athletic actions. Feet are aggressive as he attacks balls and plays through well with his body. Glove action is soft / sure and presents well out front. Athletic abilities are present through his feeds of the double play. Range is a plus as he moves well laterally and covers a lot of ground. Arm strength is outstanding (87 mph velocity) with throws showing zip across the diamond. With 2 years to further develop, Ben has the makings of a special type player with time and room to progress his game.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "present" abilities (tools), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year, using the scale below. However, grades 10-18 are not available for use with High School players (ages 14-18), while grades 55-70 are not available for use with Pre High School players (ages 12-14). These instances are marked as "--- N/A ---" in the "Description" fields below.
