06/10/2018 - College PREP - Medford (Boston), MA Ben continues to show a promising future on the diamond with improvements in his baseball abilities. At the plate, hitting / power potential has improved through a squared setup. He has fluid rhythm while getting good hand separation. Barrel is whipped through the zone through a line drive approach with power showing best to the pull side. Pop times have improved as he threw his lowest time to date at 2.35 with accuracy on his throws. Times will continue to drop as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program. Glove action is soft / clean with setup improving as he improves his flexibility. He utilizes his body well through the blocking process, centering all balls out front. At 3B, defensive abilities have improved as well as he displays smooth / fluid actions. Feet are active as he works to square balls with his body. Glove action is clean but will benefit by presenting more out front. Range will increase as he improves foot quickness.

12/27/2017 - Baseball Factory Christmas Camp & Tournament at Pirate City - Session 2 (Ages 14-18) Ben continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities. Behind the plate, pop times have improved as he threw his lowest time to date at 2.44 range with accuracy on his throws. Times will continue to drop as he builds more arm strength. He shows a solid setup and soft glove action, sticking balls in the zone well. He utilizes his body well through the blocking process with skill improving as he improves flexibility. At the plate, hitting abilities have improved through a tall setup. Hands are loose and work through a level swing path. He makes consistent contact through a line drive approach. Hitting grade will continue to improve as he works to get stride foot down sooner. Mental makeup is a plus as he is very coachable and plays the game hard.

11/19/2017 - College PREP - Marlborough (Boston), MA Ben is a young, thin, 2-way player who catches and plays 3B. Behind the plate, Ben sits-in quietly, he has active feet, and soft/presentable hands. He looks the ball in well, covers the 5-hole properly, and gains ground with accuracy from a short arm action to his target. A more square set-up, softer blocking, and added arm strength will help catching skills improve. At 3B, Ben has good lateral movements, quick/fluid footwork, and soft hands. He presents his glove well, has a clean exchange, and throws with accuracy across the diamond. INF skills can get better if Ben can add arm strength, soften/loosen his lower body, and follow his throws. Offensively, Ben has a square/athletic set-up, proper load, and middle of the field approach. He flashes some bat speed, and makes consistent contact. Hitting numbers can further improve if Ben can work on balance, timing, and add physical strength.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
