09/11/2011 - College PREP - Oak Creek (Milwaukee), WI Ben continues to show improvement in all parts of his game. He is a player to follow throughout his upcoming senior season. He plays the game the right way, works hard and has a great attitude out on the field. His arm strength, along with his home to first time and blocking evaluation all improved from his previous workout. He continues to look the part behind the plate showing an athletic setup, quick feet to throw and block and he gains ground to second on his throws. He is a quiet receiver with soft hands and good flexibility. At the plate, he keeps his hands inside the ball, displays good rhythm and has an opposite field approach. He needs to continue to work on a better load with his lower half to help develop more power to the gaps. He was also solid in the infield showing a good pre-pitch setup, good first step quickness and the ability to pick out the good hop. He makes accurate throws with good life and carry to his target.

09/19/2010 - College PREP - Milwaukee, WI Ben showed some improvements in his game during his last workout in Oak Creek, WI. Behind the plate, Ben has a quiet approach, he holds a low target, and he looks the ball in well. He has athletic actions, active feet, and he blocks and receives the ball well. Ben has a good arm action and delivers the ball with good accuracy to his target. Catching skills can get better if Ben can shorten his arm action and widen his base. At SS, Ben has active feet and he takes good angles to the ball. He has good hands, he fields the ball out in front of his body, and he plays the position comfortably. At the plate, Ben has god balance and a level swing. He has a good set-up, a line drive approach, and he can spray the ball to all fields. Added physical strength, more live hands, and better bat speed will help average hitting numbers get better.

08/05/2010 - Vero Beach Pro Select Training and Competition - 2010 Ben is a young two-way player as a catcher plus in the IF with a solid frame that shows projection as he continues to physically mature. Foot speed is solid as indicated by his 7.25 60 time. Feet are active in working in line showing proper direction through the throwing process. He is explosive through his lower half but needs to polish up his transfer / exchange. Pop times show a range of 2.10-2.20. Receiving and blocking skills show potential as being quality tools as he shows off his athletic abilities. In the IF, feet are active but needs to be more aggressive in coming to get, playing through balls with his body. He shows fluid actions with hands / feet working well together as he gets rid of the baseball quickly. Glove action is soft, clean, and sure in making the plays. He throws from all angles but will benefit by getting on a long toss program to further develop more arm strength. Offensively, Gordon shows a athletic setup as he loads well with hands working quickly and directly to the baseball, flashing bat speed. Swing path is level as he shows a feel for the barrel, making consistent, hard contact. Power numbers will increase as he learns to transfer weight properly through the swing. With 2 years to further develop, Ben has a lot of potential and will catch the eyes of the collegiate coaches as he continues to improve.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
