Official Scouting Report

  • Class Rating
  • SS/RHPPosition Projection

01/12/2018 - 2018 Under Armour All-America Pre-Season Tournament Ben attended the UAAAPS Tournament presented by Baseball Factory as a SS/RHP. Offensively, he put on a display with quick hands and bat pop that we have seen from event to event, with plus feel for the barrel. He keeps his balance centered throughout the swing and hits off a stiff front side to help generate fast bat speed - which leads to the surprising power from the 5'10/160 lbs frame. He also flashed a strong 2-strike approach, protecting and fighting off pitches. At SS, he played low to field balls with his hands presented and had a clean exchange to throw on-line to his targets. He had good bag awareness to turn double plays and moved his feet very quickly in all his actions. On the mound, he worked his FB and KN, challenging hitters. He worked hard to throw strikes and was always competing. In all - this junior prospect has what it takes to stay in the middle of the diamond at the next level and can even jump on the mound, showing plus versatility and athleticism.

07/19/2017 - Under Armour Southwest Championships 16U, powered by Baseball Factory's Team One Ben is an athletic, strong built 2B/RHP prospect who has an above average, versatile skill set on both sides of the ball. In the field, Ben plays with quick, active footwork and an aggressive approach as he attacks the baseball. He presents his glove and moves with agile actions. Ben has good hands and a clean exchange leading into a loose arm action throwing from a 3/4 arm slot. He plays with good momentum through the baseball producing consistently strong throws across the diamond. Offensively, Ben has an athletic, tall stance with a centered balance and firm front side. He has smooth rhythm with a good load and a short stride. Ben shows fast bat speed with a direct swing path producing square contact. He gets good hip rotation and shows power to each gap. On the mound, Ben has a balanced delivery throwing from a 3/4 arm slot. He has a clean arm action and extends through his release. Ben lands closed to home plate with a controlled landing. He competes with an aggressive approach and fills up the strike zone. Ben has good tail on his fastball at 80-84 MPH. Overall, Ben has a well-rounded skill set with a good approach to the game giving potential to make a difference at the next level.

03/19/2017 - College PREP - Corpus Christi, TX Ben continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities and is a prospect on the diamond. Foot speed has improved as he ran his best 60 time to date, now an excellent runner at 6.83. In the MIF, defensive abilities have really improved, now showing outstanding abilities as he displays quick/athletic actions. Feet are aggressive as he works around and plays through balls with his body. Glove action is soft/sure and he presents well out front. Hands/feet work well together as he gets rid of the baseball quickly with life, accuracy, and on line carry across the diamond. At the plate, he has improved, now displaying well above average hitting abilities with solid power potential through an athletic setup. Hands are quick and work through an aggressive approach. He has strength in his swing, works to stay inside the ball, utilizing all fields, and shows a solid feel for the barrel with gap-to-gap pop. Power will continue to improve as he utilizes his lower half more efficiently.

02/07/2016 - College PREP - Tomball (Houston), TX Ben is an athletic 2-way player (SS/RHP) who graduates in 2019. Defensively in the MIF, he displays active prep footwork moving well on the balls of his feet. He works around the ball and into a square/athletic fielding position. He shows good range to his GS and BH and has a smooth transfer to throw. With the bat, this RHH shows a square setup with rhythm to load. Quick hands whip the barrel on a short/direct path as he barrels the ball up and drives the middle of the field. On the mound, this RHP throws a FB & KN from a high 3/4 arm slot & clean arm action. He has smooth separation and repeats his delivery well. FB ranges from 72-75 mph as he pounds the zone with strikes. Knuckleball has good sink as he works to keep it down in the zone. Striding more square will allow him to drive his lower 1/2 off of the rubber and get more into his FB. Ben is a talented prospect who has a bright future ahead of him.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
