Official Scouting Report

  • Class Rating
  • 3B/RHPPosition Projection

12/27/2013 - Under Armour Baseball Factory Recruiting Classic Ben showed a quality approach offensively with flashes of quick bat speed. He was consistent to get the barrel through the zone after getting to a sound launch position with some strength. His gap pop proved to be above average with added projection when he begins to use his entire body together. At the hot corner, he showed proper footwork and had a fundamentally sound fielding position. On the bump, he threw two pitches, with a very effective slider at 66-67 MPH. His mechanics suggest more velocity and effectiveness when he gets put in a more concentrated bullpen environment. Overall - Ben is a good kid that shows his most upside with the stick, at a corner infield spot.

06/25/2013 - College PREP - Seattle, WA Ben is a solid 3B with a strong lower half that will graduate in 2014. Feet are active as he works to square balls up and plays through well as he displays soft / clean hands well out front. He needs to work to increase foot speed / quickness to continue to improve defensive grade. Throws are accurate, displaying carry across the diamond as he gets rid of the baseball quickly. At the plate, Kelleran shows a balanced approach with rhythm. He loads well with hands flashing bat speed through a level swing path. Barrel accuracy is a plus with baseball jumping off his bat when centered. Ben has a lot of potential and will catch the eyes of the collegiate coaches as he continues to improve.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "present" abilities (tools), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year, using the scale below. However, grades 10-18 are not available for use with High School players (ages 14-18), while grades 55-70 are not available for use with Pre High School players (ages 12-14). These instances are marked as "--- N/A ---" in the "Description" fields below.
