06/24/2022 - Baseball Factory Select Training at the College World Series (MS) Ben worked out at 2nd base during his time in Omaha. He is a young, hard working player who wants to improve. Defensively, Ben has a good approach to the ball through playable hands and feet. He moves well to the ball, keeps it in front of his body, and throws with accuracy to his target. Ben increased arm velocity to 66 MPH. At the plate, Ben stands in the box with a tall set-up, and he takes a controlled stride toward the pitcher. He swings on-plane, in rhythm, and he rotates his hips through; driving the ball gap to gap.

11/04/2021 - Baseball Factory Select Training at Pirate City Ben is a 2027 catcher out of Huntersville, NC who continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities. At the plate, hitting/power potential has improved through an athletic setup. He has fluid rhythm while getting good hand separation. Hands are loose and work through a level swing path. He stays inside the ball, utilizing all fields through a line drive approach. Power will increase as he utilizes his lower half more efficiently. At the event, he was 3 for 4. Behind the plate he shows a squared setup and tracks the ball well with a soft glove. He utilizes his body well through the blocking process but needs to work to get his body down sooner. Pop times showed in the 3.20 range. Times will continue to drop as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program and works to get rid of the ball quicker. Mental makeup is a plus as he is very coachable and has great knowledge of the game. We look forward to seeing what the future holds for Ben as he continues to progress his game.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
