Official Scouting Report

  • Class Rating
  • 1B/OFPosition Projection

08/09/2020 - All-In Membership - Brockton (Boston), MA Benjamin is an athletic/projectable 2-way player as a 1B/OF. With the bat, this righty shows a closed stance with centered balance. He gets his hands loaded, whips the barrel with + bat speed, and has some pop to his pull-side. The ball explodes off of his bat when centered (exit velocity = 87 mph). At 1B, he has active prep and works quickly into an athletic fielding position. He tracks the ball into a soft mitt with the ability to pick it. He moves well around the 1B bag with quick footwork. In the OF, he works lightly on the balls of his feet and covers ground right and left. He has a clean transfer with accurate throws into his target. Kushi has upside and will find success on the diamond as he enters his junior year.

11/17/2019 - College PREP - Marlborough (Boston), MA Ben showed well at both 1B and in the OF during his last workout with The Factory. He is a long/lean player who will graduate in 2022. At 1st base, Ben has active feet, firm hands, and he fields in a square position. He has good bag awareness, a clean exchange, and he throws with consistency and direction to his target. If Ben can field further out in front of his body, and quicken his release, abilities in the INF can improve. In the OF, Ben has efficient footwork, good pre-pitch actions, and he takes solid angles to the ball. He works behind it well and throws with accuracy to his cut off man. Added aggressiveness and following his throws can help OF skills get better. Offensively, Ben has an athletic set-up, good balance, and fast bat speed. He has good bat whip, he makes square contact, and he works the ball gap to gap. Continuing to use lower body and better weight transfer will help hitting continue to spike.

11/19/2017 - Interactive Video Program - Marlborough (Boston), MA Ben is a long, lean 1B/OF. Defensively at 1B, he takes a prep step with active footwork and works into an athletic fielding position on GB's. He works well to get in front and shows solid footwork when turning double plays. In the OF, he takes active routes/angles as he tracks down hard-hit fly balls. He works through the ball and makes accurate throws to his target. As a hitter, Ben has an athletic setup with smooth rhythm to load. He utilizes his lower 1/2, gets extension through contact and drives pitches from gap to gap. Overall abilities in his game will improve with work on the following.

Infield
1. Lateral range
2. Develop soft hands
3. Clean exchange to throw
Outfield
1. Work behind the fly ball
2. Play through more
3. Arm strength (long toss)
Offense
1. Stay inside ball
2. Improve bat speed
3. Contact points

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
