10/05/2019 - College Recruiting Day - Austin, TX Ben is an athletic C/SS prospect who will graduate in 2023. Behind the plate, Ben moves efficiently and blocks well. He tracks the ball well and receives with a firm glove. He makes a clean exchange, keeping his throws accurate to the 2B bag. Sitting in a square stance towards the pitcher can help Ben improve as a C. At SS, Ben shows fluid footwork and is agile covering ground. He gets into an athletic position and fields the ball out in front with soft hands. He makes a quick exchange and gains momentum well on his throws, keeping them accurate with carry through his target. Ben can improve as a SS by removing his glove pat when throwing. At the plate, this RHH sets up in an athletic stance and takes a short stride. He is smooth getting into his load and drives through well with his lower half. He produces fast bat speed through the zone, leading to solid contact to his pull side. Taking a shorter swing to the ball can help Ben improve as a hitter. Overall, Ben is a solid prospect who has the potential to further develop his skills on the field.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
