01/17/2020 - 2020 Under Armour All-America Pre-Season Tournament Ben is an athletic C/OF prospect who showed well at the Under Armour All-America Pre-Season Tournament. Behind the plate, Ben sits in an athletic stance and receives with a quiet glove. He makes a clean exchange and gets rid of the ball quickly, keeping his throws accurate with carry through the 2B bag. He centers the ball in the middle of his body when blocking and is quick to recover. At the plate, this RHH sets up in a square stance and takes a square stride. He gets his hands activated on time and drives through well with his lower half. He takes a level swing with fast bat speed, leading to loud line drives. Overall, Ben is a talented prospect who has the potential to contribute at the next level.

06/02/2019 - College PREP - Woodbridge (DC), VA Ben is a lean, athletic C/OF who has a promising future on the diamond. Foot speed is well above average as indicated by his 60 time of 7.03. Behind the plate, feet are active as he works in line to his target through a clean transfer / exchange as he gets rid of the baseball quickly. Pop time showed a range of 2.07-2.20 with accuracy and zip (87 mph velocity) on his throws. He tracks the ball well and presents a low target. He utilizes his body well through the blocking process, centering balls out front. Receiving / blocking skills show as quality tools that will player well at the next level. In the OF, defensive abilities are solid as he displays smooth fluid actions. He takes proper routes / angles in tracking down balls. He works to get behind balls more to play through with momentum to his target. Range is a plus as he moves well laterally and covers a lot of ground. At the plate, he continues to shine through an open setup. Hands are quick and work through an aggressive swing path. He stays inside the ball, utilizing all fields through a line drive approach with gap-to gap pop. He utilizes his lower half well and shows a plus feel for the barrel. With 3 years to further develop, Ben has the makings of a special type player that will get looks from the collegiate coaches as he continues to progress his game.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
