11/18/2018 - National Tryout Plus - Montgomery, AL Ben is an athletic and talented 2020 2-way prospect that continue to show improvement. In the OF, Ben is on time with his prep step, anticipates the ball off the bat, and fields the ball in an athletic position. Hes sure handed when fielding, he has a clean exchange, and makes accurate throws to the plate. At the plate, Ben starts in a tall and open stance. He loads his hands back into the drive position, creates backside rotation with his lower half, and stays balanced through contact. Ben has an overall compact swing and shows the ability to hit to all fields. Ben continues to work hard and we hope to see his progress in the future.

10/14/2018 - National Tryout Plus - Hoover (Birmingham), AL Ben is an athletic and talented 2020 OF prospect that continue to improve with experience. In the OF, Ben is on time with his prep step, he anticipates the ball off the bat, and works behind the ball. He fields the ball in an athletic position, and creates momentum in his lower half when throwing the ball. At the plate, Ben starts in an open stance, gets his front foot down on time, and has fluid rhythm in his load. He creates backside rotation with his lower half, hits off a firm front side, and stays balanced through contact. Ben attacks the inside part of the ball and creates pull side lift on the ball. We hope to see him continue his progress into the future.

08/01/2018 - Baseball Factory National World Series at Pirate City - Session 2 (Ages 14-18) Ben is a coachable OF/LHP prospect who worked hard on his skills during his time at the National World Series at Pirate City. In the field, Ben makes the routine plays and shows a quick, clean exchange to throw. He throws from a 3/4 angle and keeps them accurate and on-line to his target. Ben can improve defensively by getting into a more athletic fielding position. At the plate, this LHH sets up in an athletic stance and takes a short stride. He is fluid getting into his load and maintains center balance. He takes a direct swing with fast bat speed which leads to consistent contact to all fields. Ben can improve as a hitter by driving his lower half more. On the mound, Ben keeps his eyes on target as he gathers over the rubber and separates his hands on time. He works with a clean arm action and stays inline towards the plate. Ben shows a two pitch mix with his fastball topping out at 69mph with tailing action. Breaking ball sits from 62-63mph with 1-7 break. Ben can improve as a pitcher by gaining more extension through his release. Overall, Ben is a solid prospect who has the potential to further develop his skills on the field.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "present" abilities (tools), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year, using the scale below. However, grades 10-18 are not available for use with High School players (ages 14-18), while grades 55-70 are not available for use with Pre High School players (ages 12-14). These instances are marked as "--- N/A ---" in the "Description" fields below.
