01/17/2020 - 2020 Under Armour All-America Pre-Season Tournament Ben is a tall 3B prospect who showed well at the Under Armour All-America Pre-Season Tournament. In the field, Ben shows active footwork and is efficient moving to the ball. He gets into position on time and fields the ball out in front with sure hands. He makes a clean exchange and gains ground well on his throws, keeping them accurate with good backspin through his target. At the plate, this RHH sets up in an open stance and takes a square stride. He is controlled getting into a simple load and hits against a strong front side. He takes a smooth swing with decent bat speed, leading to consistent contact and gap to gap pop. Overall, Ben is a talented prospect who has the potential to contribute at the next level.

08/07/2016 - National Tryout Plus - Council Bluffs (Omaha), IA Ben continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities with a promising future on the diamond. Foot speed has improved as he ran his best 60 time to date. Behind the plate, pop times have improved as he threw his lowest time to date at 2.46 with accuracy on his throws. Feet are active working in line through a clean transfer / exchange as he gets rid of the baseball quickly. Receiving / blocking skills show as quality tools as he continues to develop and get more reps. At the plate, hitting / power potential have improved through an athletic setup. Hands are quick and work through a level swing path. He works to keep hands inside the ball, utilizing all fields with gap to gap pop. Power will continue to improve as he works to utilize his lower half more aggressively.

12/20/2015 - Baseball Factory Winter Classic - Session 1 Ben is a coachable player and is a great teammate with a solid frame. Behind the plate, he shows a clean transfer / exchange but will benefit by improving foot work to throw to aid in lowering pop times. Receiving / blocking tools show as playable tools as he continues to develop and get more reps. At the plate, hands are loose and work through a level swing path. He shows a feel for the barrel with baseball jumping off the bat when centered. With 5 years to further develop, Ben has abilities with time and room to improve.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
