06/09/2018 - 2018 Under Armour Showcase: Baseball Factory's National Texas Ben continues to show as a prospect on the diamond. Pop times showed in the 2.00 range with on line carry (86 mph velocity) and accuracy to his throws. Receiving / blocking skills are tremendous as he shows off his athletic abilities. At the plate, he continues to shine. He has fluid rhythm while getting good hand separation. Barrel is whipped through the zone (84 mph exit velocity) as he connects through a line drive path. A talented prospect, he will make things happen both behind the dish as well as with the bat.

05/06/2018 - College PREP - Houston, TX Ben has really improved his baseball abilities and he is a prospect on the diamond. This powerful RHH backstop continues to shine. Foot speed has improved as he ran his best 60 time to date, now an outstanding runner at 6.85. With flexion and good sway he pockets pitches with a soft/sure mitt. Pop times have improved as he threw his lowest time to date at 1.85 range. He will control the run-ning game with his quick feet and arm. At the plate, he has fluid rhythm while getting good hand separation. Barrel is whipped (92 mph exit velocity) through the zone as he connects with strength. The ball jumps off of his barrel as he crushes it to the gaps. A talented prospect - he will make things happen both behind the dish as well as with the bat. He has the makings of a solid 2019 draft prospect.

01/13/2017 - Under Armour All-America Pre-Season Tournament Ben is a well-built catching prospect who has a talented skill set on both sides of the ball. Behind the plate, Ben has a solid setup and moves smoothly with agile actions. He receives the ball with a soft glove and has clean exchange. He throws with a loose arm action from a 3/4 slot with good momentum through his release. His throws are consistent with good strength and his POP times range from 2.01-2.06 seconds down to 2B. Ben does a great job blocking the baseball creating effective angles to keep everything in front of him. As a right-handed hitter, Ben has an athletic setup with quiet, easy actions and a centered balance. Has fluid rhythm with his load and a square stride as he uses his lower half throughout his swing. Ben has a short, direct swing path producing hard, consistent contact. He is a line drive type hitter who does a nice job using the middle of the field and shows pull side power. Overall, Ben has a bright future on the diamond with an above average skill set and the talent to get even better.

07/18/2016 - College PREP - Plano (DFW), TX Ben continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities with a promising future on the diamond. Foot speed has improved as he ran his best 60 time to date, now an outstanding runner at 7.03. Behind the plate, he threw his lowest pop time to date at 1.88. Throws display accuracy and on line carry as he gets rid of the baseball quickly with outstanding arm strength. He will control the running game with his feet / arm. Receiving / blocking skills show as outstanding tools that will play well at the next level. At the plate, hitting / power potential are now outstanding through an athletic setup. Hands are quick (87 mph exit velocity) creating bat speed through a direct / level swing path with late explosion. He has strength in his swing and works to stay inside the ball, utilizing all fields with gap to gap pop. Barrel accuracy is a plus with the baseball exploding off the bat when centered.

12/06/2015 - College PREP - Crowley, TX Ben is a young (2019 grad) R/R backstop. Behind the plate, this defensive specialist sits in well with loose actions and good sway. He tracks pitches into his mitt, sticks them with a firm wrist and frames well. He works hard laterally to center pitches in the dirt off of his chest. Transfer/exchange is quick as he gets rid of the ball and works in-line toward his target - pop times at 1.96. Runners will not want to test his arm. With the bat, Ben stands in well and remains selective. Swing is level as he connects and drives the ball on a line. Getting loaded sooner along with engaging more of his lower 1/2 in the swing will result in increased power at the plate. Ben has a solid toolset with still a lot of time to develop.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
