Official Scouting Report

  • Class Rating
  • OF/LHPPosition Projection

05/07/2017 - College PREP - Bowie, MD Ben continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities and has a promising future on the diamond. At the plate is where he has improved the most, now displaying well above average hitting abilities with solid power potential. Hands are quick and work through a level swing path. He uses his lower half well and has strength in his swing with power showing best to the pull side. In the OF, defensive abilities are solid as he displays smooth / fluid actions. He takes proper routes / angles in working to get behind balls and play through with momentum to his target. Range is a plus as he reads balls well off the bat and covers a lot of ground with his foot speed. On the mound, arm strength has improved as he threw his top velocity to date at 73 mph. Fastball showed tailing action. He maintains arm speed on his changeup with arm side run. Breaking ball displays 1/7 shape with early break. Stock on the mound will continue to improve as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program.

01/13/2017 - Baseball Factory National Spring Training at Pirate City Ben is a versatile OF/LHP prospect who has a projectable frame and graduates in 2018. As a left-handed hitter, Ben has an athletic, open stance with a centered balance. He takes a good load and is consistently ready to hit. Ben has good hand eye coordination and consistently lands the barrel to the baseball. He has a solid approach and the ability to spray the ball to all fields. In the field, Ben plays with effective footwork and body control taking the correct angles to cover good ground. He gets behind the baseball and presents his glove fielding it in the correct position. Ben has a long arm action throwing from an over the top slot. He plays with momentum through the baseball producing strong, accurate throws. On the mound, Ben has a balanced, on-time delivery throwing from an over the top slot. He extends through his release and has the proper stride length doing a nice job finishing with his chest over his front knee. Ben gets ahead in the count and works both sides of the plate. Overall, Ben is a talented prospect who has good upside on both sides of the ball.

08/07/2016 - College PREP - Wilmington, DE Ben is a wiry, athletic 2018 outfield prospect. He shows off his good wheels both in the outfield running balls down and on the base paths. This kid has active feet in the outfield to cover lots of ground and he does a good job of getting behind the ball. He is athletic and low when fielding and has a clean exchange to throw with good accuracy to his target. At the plate, Ben has an athletic setup with fluid actions and good balance. He keeps his head still throughout his swing and has a level path to the ballot hit lots of line drives. Incorporating his lower half will result in more hard contact and base hits. Ben is an intriguing prospect we look forward to watching progress.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
