Official Scouting Report

  • SS/RHPPosition Projection

01/24/2021 - All-In Membership - Jackson, MS Ben is an athletic SS/RHP who has a promising future on the diamond. At SS, displays smooth / fluid actions. Feet are aggressive as he works around but needs to play through balls more with his body. Glove action is clean and presents well out front. He moves well laterally with range improving as he increases foot quickness. At the plate, he continues to shine through a squared setup. Hands are quick and work through an aggressive swing path. He stays inside the ball, utilizing all fields through a line drive approach. On the mound, he shows a three pitch mix with his fastball topping out at 66 mph. Fastball shows good sinking action. Breaking ball displays 3/9 shape with sweeping action. He maintains arm speed on his changeup with arm side run. Slider is harder with tight spin and short break. Control is solid as he throws strikes with all his pitches. Stock on the mound will continue to rise as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program. With 4 years to further develop, Ben has potential with time and room to progress his game.

02/02/2020 - Interactive Video Program - Mobile, AL Ben is a young, 2-way player who plays SS and RHP. Defensively, Ben has active feet, a presentable glove, and he fields athletically. He takes good angles, makes plays consistently, and he throws with momentum and accuracy from a short arm action across the diamond. On the mound, Ben has good balance, a clean arm action, and he separates his hands on time. He gets good extension, lands with good direction, and competes in the zone. Offensively, Ben has a square stance, a short stride, and good balance. He has good timing, he works the middle of the field, and he can spray to all fields. Overall skills can continue to improve with work on the following.

Defense
1. Quicken exchange
2. Aggressiveness
Pitching
1. Off-speed
2. Glove side lead
Offense

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
