Ben continues to shine on the diamond. This speedster can make things happen on the diamond. Defensively in the OF, he is aggressive and works on the balls of his feet. He plays through the ball and has a clean exchange to throw. At 2B, he shows active footwork with plus lateral range. He fields the ball cleanly and works in-line toward his target. At the plate, Ben is a top of the line-up type of guy with his ability to barrel up the ball and get out of the box and down the line. Upchurch is a high energy guy who brings a lot to the table.

Upchurch showed in the OF and at 2B for the first time at the event. In the OF, he utilizes his quick feet well in his lateral movements, displaying range. He is aggressive attacking ground balls but needs to work to get behind balls more to play through with momentum to his target to continue to improve defensive grade. At 2B, he works to square balls up and makes the routine plays, presenting hands well out front. Defensive grade will continue to improve as he attacks balls more, playing through. At the plate, he only showed from the right side. He maintains balance through the swing and works to stay inside the ball, utilizing all fields. Power numbers will continue to improve with more bat speed.

Ben is a thin 2nd baseman who will graduate in 2015. At 2nd base, Ben has active feet, he works around the ball, and he plays through properly. He covers ground well, his exchange is clean, and he throws with accuracy to his target. Defense can improve if Ben can play lower, field out front, and add arm strength. Offensively, Ben has a closed set-up, good balance, and he swings with good rhythm in his hands. He has ok bat speed, he makes consistent contact, and he gets his lower 1/2 through. A sooner front foot, better timing, and an improved load should help offense get better.
