10/18/2017 - Arizona Junior Fall Classic Ben continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities. Foot speed has improved as he ran his best 60 time to date. At the plate, power potential has improved, now showing as outstanding through an athletic setup. Hands are quick (91 mph exit velocity) and work through a level swing path. He stays inside the baseball, utilizing all fields with gap-to-gap pop. Barrel accuracy is a plus with baseball jumping off the bat when centered. At the event, he was 5 for 11 with 2 2B. At 3B, he displays smooth / clean actions. He utilizes his quick / athletic feet well in his lateral movements, displaying range in the MIF and attacks balls playing through well while presenting hands well out front. Hands / feet work well together through the fielding process. Throws are accurate with on line carry as he works to get rid of the baseball quickly. Mental makeup is a plus as he has a great attitude and is very coachable as he works hard to be the best player he can be.

07/18/2017 - College PREP - Dallas, TX Ben is a well-built, athletic 3B prospect who has a talented skill set and graduates in 2019. As a right-handed hitter, Ben has an athletic, crouched stance with a centered balance. He has a fluid, smooth load with an on-time stride as he uses his lower half throughout his swing. Ben shows an on-plane swing path maintaining an effective bat angle through the zone. He has a line drive approach and produces consistent contact. He has a good strength and can use it showing pull side power. At the hot corner, Ben plays with active footwork and creates effective angles to show solid range. He presents his glove and fields the ball in an athletic, square position. Ben receives the ball with soft hands and shows a smooth backhand. He has a clean exchange leading into a loose arm action throwing from a high 3/4 arm slot. His throws are consistent with online strength across the diamond. Overall, Ben has skill on both sides of the ball with the right approach to give him a bright future on the diamond.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "present" abilities (tools), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year, using the scale below. However, grades 10-18 are not available for use with High School players (ages 14-18), while grades 55-70 are not available for use with Pre High School players (ages 12-14). These instances are marked as "--- N/A ---" in the "Description" fields below.
