Official Scouting Report

  • Class Rating
  • RHP/2BPosition Projection

01/13/2017 - Baseball Factory All-America Pre-Season Rookie Tournament Ben is a strong/projectable (5'9"/175) RHP/OF who showed well during his time at the All-America Pre-Season Rookie Tournament. On the mound, this righty has an effective 3-pitch mix in which he pounds the zone with strikes. He has smooth separation and stays directional toward the plate. FB shows some cut as it now tops out at 75 mph. Breaking ball shows 10/4 shape with good action. Changeup shows sink and will get GB outs. As a hitter, Ben steps into the box with a purpose. He takes an aggressive hack, connects with strength and drives the ball with pop. He has a great eye for the zone, drawing 5 walks at the event and collecting 2 singles. He hits the ball where it's pitched and sprays it to all parts of the field. In the INF, he shows good lateral range. He makes the plays with soft/sure hands and fires accurate throws across the diamond. This 2020 grad has a ton of upside and will make an impact in a variety of ways on the diamond.

12/27/2015 - Baseball Factory Winter Classic - Session 2 Ben is an athletic RHP/3B that will graduate in 2020. Defensively at the hot corner, he showed good feel for the game with an advanced baseball IQ, and had soft/sure hands to make plays. His feet worked well in all directions and he threw with carry after securing the ball. Offensively, he kept his head still through the swing allowing him to track to contact. He worked his backside through the zone with hand/hip coordination and worked to arrive on-time to launch. On the mound, he threw his FB up to 71, and spun a 10/4 SL from 60-61. He had good rhythm in his delivery and a quick tempo pitch to pitch. He controlled his body to land and rotated to the dish to finish. All in all - Ben is a hard nose ball player that has present strength and advanced feel for baseball.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
