Official Scouting Report

  • Class Rating
  • C/RHPPosition Projection

01/12/2018 - Baseball Factory National Spring Training at Pirate City Trae continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities. On the mound, arm strength has improved as he threw his top velocity to date at 68 mph. Fastball shows a range of 64-68 mph. Breaking ball displays 11/5 shape with early break. He maintains arm speed on his changeup but needs to develop more movement on the pitch. Control is a plus as he throws strikes with all his pitches. Stock on the mound will continue to improve as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program. Behind the plate, feet are active working in line through a clean transfer/exchange. Times will continue to drop as he works to get rid of the baseball quicker. Glove action is clean but will benefit by presenting an earlier/lower target. He uses his body well through the blocking process but needs to improve flexibility and works to get down sooner. At the plate, he shows a closed setup. Hands are quick and work through a level swing path. He stays inside the ball, utilizing all fields and shows a feel for the barrel, flashing gap-to-gap pop. Mental makeup is a plus as he is very coachable and works hard to be the best player he can be.

11/19/2017 - College PREP - Pearland (Houston), TX Trae is a broad, strong two-way prospect who shows skills all over the field. He has a strong arm that he shows to the plate and behind it. Behind the dish, he is athletic in his setup with quick twitch actions and efficient footwork. He receives well, working around the ball and his feet work well to get down to block balls in the dirt. He shows three pitches on the mound including a low 60's heater with run, a 10-4 curve and a high 50's changeup. He is balanced throughout his delivery with on time separation to keep his arm in sync and get to a consistent release point. Working on the intent he pitches with will result in more velocity and movement on his pitches. At the dish, he shows a strong, on time stride to launch through the zone with feel for the barrel. His lower half is strong and generates bat speed and pop as he makes hard, line drive contact to all fields. Trae is an intriguing prospect with lots of potential on the field.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
