Official Scouting Report

  • Class Rating
  • RHP/3BPosition Projection

12/27/2018 - Baseball Factory Christmas Camp & Tournament at Pirate City - Session 2 (Ages 14-18) Benjamin is a big, young two-way player with exciting tools all over the field. He is polished on the mound with a loose, quick arm and a repeatable delivery. He features a FB/CB mix that is difficult on hitters due to his ability to throw both pitches with the same arm action. He reaches 86mph on his FB with good sink and shows big break on his CB at 74mph. He has lots of upside on the mound with his frame and present ability. At the hot corner, he shows a rocket arm across the diamond with accuracy to his target. He shows athletic actions and moves well to make plays to both sides. At the plate, he has an advanced approach, not expanding the strike zone. He makes hard, line drive contact and extends through the ball to drive it. Working on a level path will lead to more base hits. Benjamin is an exciting prospect with a bright future.

04/08/2018 - College PREP - Plano (DFW), TX Benjamin showed at SS only at the event. He continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities and has a promising future on the diamond. Foot speed has improved as he ran his best 60 time to date, 7.37. In the MIF, he shows smooth/clean actions. He displays proper footwork in creating angles in attacking and playing through balls with his body. Glove action is clean and presents well out front. Range is a plus as he moves well laterally and covers a lot of ground. Throws are accurate, flashing carry but will benefit by building more arm strength through a long toss program. At the plate, he continues to show as a switch hitter with similar abilities from both sides. He takes a level swing with good bat speed which leads to solid contact through a line drive approach. Hands are quick and work inside the ball, utilizing all fields. Power will continue to improve as he utilizes his lower half more efficiently. Overall, Benjamin is a solid player with time and room to continue to progress his game.

11/05/2017 - College PREP - Plano (DFW), TX Benjamin is a young, talented RHP prospect who has the potential to anchor a rotation. He can really swing it from both sides of the plate, helping his cause on the mound with extra base hit ability. On the bump, this right hander throws three pitches at three speeds to keep hitters off balance. He attacks with the fastball to all parts of the plate, repeating his delivery consistently and driving down the mound towards the plate. Getting to a consistent release point on his curveball will result in better action and command. At the plate, he has a smooth, level swing, getting on plane early. He consistently barrels the ball and makes square, line drive contact. Benjamin is an exciting prospect with a bright future on the field.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
