12/15/2019 - College PREP - Madison (NYC), NJ Benjamin continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities. Foot speed has improved as he ran his best 60 time to date, now a 7.28 runner. Behind the plate, pop times showed in the 2.16 range with accuracy on his throws. Times will continue to drop as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program. Hands are soft / sure and he sticks balls in the zone. He utilizes his body well through the blocking process, centering balls well out front. At the plate, hitting / power potential have improved through an open setup. Hands are quick (84 mph exit velocity) and work to and through a level swing path. He works to stay inside the ball, utilizing all fields with gap-to-gap pop. Power will continue to increase as he utilizes his lower half more efficiently. On the mound, arm strength has improved as threw his top velocity to date at 72 mph. Breaking ball displays 10/4 shape with gradual break. He slows his arm speed tipping off pitch to hitters. Slider resembles breaking ball with 10/4 shape. Stock on the mound will continue to improve as he builds more arm strength.

07/17/2018 - College PREP - Trenton, NJ Benjamin showed solid overall improvements at his last workout with The Factory. Behind the plate, Benjamin has active feet, soft/presentable hands, and he sticks the pitches well. He keeps it in front when blocking, he has a clean exchange, and throws with accuracy to 2nd base with pop times as low as 2.10. Work on blocking and quickening his exchange can help catching skills improve. On the mound, Benjamin stands over the rubber well balanced, he keeps his eyes on target, and he repeats his delivery well. He has good glove side lead, a controlled landing toward home, and competes in the zone. Mound effectiveness can get better with added arm strength, more lower body, and more extension on his pitches. At the plate, Benjamin has a square/athletic set-up, an aggressive swing, and he loads well. He puts the bat on the ball consistently and uses some lower body. Work on a stride, added bat speed, and improved barrel accuracy will help hitting grades spike.

10/02/2016 - Interactive Video Program - Hightstown, NJ Benjamin is a C/RHP who will graduate in 2021. Behind the plate, Benjamin uses his feet efficiently and gains ground to center the ball when blocking balls in the dirt. He has a clean exchange to throw with a loose action from over the top. He gains momentum well when moving to throw which allows his throws to be consistently accurate and on-line to his target. In the box, Benjamin sets up in a crouched stance and takes a short, square stride to the ball. He gets into his load well and comes through the zone with his lower half, finishing with a firm front side. He has decent bat speed which leads to solid line drives. On the mound, Benjamin shows a three pitch mix with his fastball sitting from 64-68mph. Breaking ball range from 53-56mph with 11-5 break. Changeup sits from 57-60mph. Overall abilities will improve with work on the following.

Catching
1. Present hands earlier to receive
2. Shorten exchange to throw
Hitting
1. More center balance
2. More direct swing path
Pitching
1. More lower half drive
2. Long toss

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
