Official Scouting Report

Omaha National World Series - Session 1 (Ages 14-18) Benjamin continues to show steady progress in his game. At 3B, he fields out in front and does a nice job to the glove side. Benjamin needs to continue to work on his angles towards the ball and avoid stabbing at the backhand. At the plate, he tracks the ball well and keeps his head still. For hitting and power to improve, more use of the lower half will help in addition to working on his grip. On the mound, fastball had some cutting action and he pounds the zone with strikes. Breaking ball displays 10/4 shape with gradual break. Control is solid as he throws strikes with all his pitches. Getting on a long toss program will help to increase arm strength which will aid in his development on the mound. We look forward to seeing what the future holds for Benjamin.

08/01/2018 - Baseball Factory National World Series at Pirate City - Session 2 (Ages 14-18) Benjamin is a hardworking, coachable two-way player who can contribute all over the field. He is comfortable in the box with the ability to make consistent contact and drive the ball at times. He shows a balanced swing at the plate from a loaded, power position and can use all fields for hits. He has a level swing and gets on plane behind the plate to match the pitch and hit line drives consistently. At third, he shows athleticism and body control to field with range to both sides and the ability to make tough plays. He fields square and has a clean exchange to make accurate throws across the diamond. On the bump, this big right hander features a three-pitch mix including a fastball at 70mph with cutting action, an 11-5 curveball with tight spin and a deceptive changeup to keep hitters off the fastball. He works to both sides of the plate effectively and mixes pitches to keep hitters off balance. Working on his frontside strength will help him whip his arm through and improve velocity. Benjamin is an interesting prospect we look forward to watching during his senior season.

03/18/2018 - College PREP - Kannapolis (Charlotte), NC Benjamin is a 2019 RHP/3B prospect. At the hot corner, Benjamin funnels the ball and has a clean exchange. He makes the routine play and creates momentum with his lower half when he throws. At the plate, Benjamin starts in a squared stance and stays balanced through contact. He keeps the barrel on plane with the ball and drives the ball gap to gap. On the bump, Benjamin gathers over the rubber, separates on time, and throws north to south. He has arm side run on the FB and has late break on the CB. Benjamin will continue to improve with experience and we look forward to seeing his progress in the future.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "present" abilities (tools), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year, using the scale below. However, grades 10-18 are not available for use with High School players (ages 14-18), while grades 55-70 are not available for use with Pre High School players (ages 12-14). These instances are marked as "--- N/A ---" in the "Description" fields below.
