Official Scouting Report

01/13/2017 - Under Armour All-America Pre-Season Tournament There is no question Benjamin came into the UAPSAA Event with Baseball Factory prepared, impressing scouts with his best outing to date. His three pitch mix and overall pitch ability was admirable, as he was balanced, and loose repeating his delivery. He worked downhill with his 6'3/220 lbs frame and kept control through the finish. His FB stayed down with run from 81-82, and he stunned with his off-speed stuff, spinning a late breaking CB from 67-69, and a CH with run from 72-73. That's not where he stopped, his bat proved effective as he worked in the middle with his approach, getting good separation and extension. At 1B, he moved his feet well to get into a low fielding position with his hands in front. His feet were efficient around the bag and his arm worked clean to throw. All in all - Ben is a junior that is ready for a stand out spring season.

10/02/2016 - College PREP - Charlotte, NC Benjamin continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities with a promising future on the diamond. On the bump, arm strength has improved as indicated by his top velocity of 83 mph. FB ranges from 81-83 mph with tailing action. Breaking ball displays 2/8 shape with gradual break. Changeup shows good sinking action but slows arm speed, tipping off pitch to hitters. Getting on a long toss program will help to increase arm strength which will aid in his development on the mound. At 1B, he displays proper footwork around the game and is a quality receiver. Hands are soft / clean but will benefit by presenting more out front. Range will improve as he increases foot quickness. At the plate, he continues to show as a switch hitter with similar abilities from both sides. Hands are quick (86 mph exit velocity) and works through a level swing path. He has strength in his swing and good barrel accuracy with power showing best to the pull side. Power numbers will increase as he works to utilize his lower half more aggressively through the swing.

06/18/2016 - Omaha National World Series - Session 1 Benjamin continues to show as a 1B/LHP with a promising future on the diamond and an upside on the mound. On the mound, he hides the ball well with fastball showing in the low 80 range. He maintains arm speed on his changeup but needs to develop more movement on pitch. His control is above average as he throws strikes with all his pitches, locating to both sides of the plate. He fields his position well and does a nice job of backing up bases. Benjamin's skills on the mound will continue to rise as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program. At 1B, his feet are active as he displays proper footwork around the bag and is a quality receiver. At the plate, he continues to show as a switch hitter and has improved his abilities from both sides, showing similar abilities. He has some strength in his swing with the baseball jumping off of his bat when centered and works to stay inside the ball, utilizing all fields. At the event, he was 5 for 10 with 2 2B. Benjamin's mental makeup is a plus as he has a great personality, is very coachable and works hard to be the best player he can be.

03/20/2016 - College PREP - Greenville, SC Benjamin is a tall, broad 1B/LHP who has a promising future on the diamond. At 1B, feet are active as he displays proper footwork around the bag and is a quality receiver, stretching out well. He moves well laterally and shows off his athletic abilities on his feeds of the double play. At the plate he is a switch hitter with similar abilities from both sides. Hands are quick (87 mph exit velocity) and he works through a level swing path. Barrel accuracy is a plus with ball jumping off the bat when centered and works to stay inside the ball, utilizing all fields. Power will increase as he works to use his lower half more aggressively. On the mound, fastball showed a range of 77-79 mph with arm side run. Changeup is best off speed pitch as he maintains arm speed with solid arm side run. Breaking ball displays 1/7 shape with gradual break. Getting on a long toss program will help to increase arm strength which will aid in his development on the mound. With 2 years to further develop, Benjamin has potential with a lot of room to continue to progress his game.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
