11/02/2014 - College PREP - Tampa, FL Ben showed solid improvements in his overall game during his time in Tampa. Behind the plate, Ben displayed soft hands, good body control, and the ability to work around the ball when blocking. He looks it in well, his exchange is clean, and he delivers the ball with accuracy from a long arm action to 2nd base. Catching can continue to improve if Ben can improve his setup, get lower when blocking, and quicken his transfer. At 1B, Ben hustles well to the ball, he makes plays consistently, and he throws accurately across the diamond. Quicker feet, fielding further out front, and playing more through will help defense get even better. Offensively, Ben has good balance, an activated load, and a level swing path. He has good barrel accuracy and can hit to all fields. Hitting numbers will rise with better timing, looser actions, and better separation.

06/15/2013 - Omaha National World Series - Session 1 Loya continues to show steady play in his baseball abilities behind the plate and at 1B at the event. Behind the plate, pop times were in the 2.45 range and times will continue to drop as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program. Receiving / blocking skills show as quality tools that will play well at the next level as he continues to improve. At 1B, feet are active as he displays proper footwork around the bag and is a quality receiver. He works to square balls up but needs to play through balls more and present hands out front to continue to improve defensive grade. At the plate, he shows a balanced setup with hands working inside the ball, utilizing all fields. Power numbers will continue to improve as he learns to use his lower half more. Mental makeup is a plus as he plays hard and displays a positive attitude.

02/24/2013 - College PREP - Dayton, OH Benjamin is a thick C/1B that will graduate in 2016. Feet are active as he works in line through a clean transfer / exchange. Pop times show a range of 2.31 2.47 with accuracy on his throws. Times will continue to drop as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program. Receiving / blocking skills show as playable tools at the next level as he continues to improve. At 1B, he displays proper footwork around the bag and is a quality receiver. He needs to attack ground balls more, play through, and present hands more out front to continue to improve defensive grade. At the plate, Loya shows a square, athletic setup with balance. Hands are quick, flashing bat speed to and through a level swing path. He shows a feel for the barrel with the baseball jumping off his bat when centered. Power numbers will continue to improve as he learns to use his lower half more. With 3 years to further develop, Benjamin has a lot of potential and will catch the eyes of the collegiate coaches as he continues to improve.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
