Official Scouting Report

  • Class Rating
  • C/RHPPosition Projection

12/27/2017 - Baseball Factory Christmas Camp & Tournament at Pirate City - Session 2 (Ages 14-18) Benjamin is a hard working 2018 C/RHP prospect. Behind the dish, Benjamin starts in an athletic primary and presents a low target. Continuing to have a clean exchange in front of his chest, and setting his feet in line with his target will make him an efficient thrower. Leading with the glove while blocking and anticipating the ball in the dirt will allow him to be on time and control the ball with his chest. At the plate, Benjamin has a simple approach, and is aggressive on the fastball. He uses his backside and attacks the inside part of the ball. Keeping the chest behind his front knee after contact will allow him to stay back on the ball and work all parts of the field. On the Bump, Benjamin Gathers over the rubber, separates on time, and stays directional toward the plate. He works at a face pace, and controls both sides of the zone. Developing his secondary pitches will make him a multi dimensional pitcher. Benjamin is a hard worker player that plays the game with a purpose. He will continue to improve with experience and we hope to see his progress in the future.

10/01/2017 - College PREP - Spokane, WA Benjamin is an athletic (5'11"/180) catcher who has a promising future on the diamond. At the plate is where he shows best, displaying well above average hitting / power potential through a squared setup. Hands are quick (85 mph exit velocity) and work through a level swing path. He has strength in his swing and stays inside the ball, utilizing all fields through a line drive approach. He hits the ball where it's pitched and sprays it to all parts of the field. Behind the plate, feet are active in working in line to his target through a clean transfer exchange. Pop times showed a range 2.02-2.18 with accuracy and carry (86 mph velocity) on his throws, showing outstanding arm strength. Times will continue to drop as he works to get rid of the baseball quicker. He tracks balls well and sticks balls. He utilizes his body well through the blocking process and is a wall behind the plate. Receiving / blocking skills show as outstanding tools that will play well at the next level. Benjamin has the makings of a special type player and will get looks from the collegiate coaches with his baseball abilities.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
