12/27/2017 - Baseball Factory Winter Classic - Session 2 (Ages 12-14) Ben continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities and has a bright future on the diamond. At the plate, hitting / power potential have improved through a tall setup. Hands are quick and work through a level swing path. He stays inside the ball, utilizing all fields through a line drive approach. Power will continue to improve as he utilizes his lower half more efficiently. At 1B, he displays proper footwork around bag and is a quality receiver. Glove action is clean but will benefit by presenting more out front. Throws are accurate but needs to build more arm strength through a long toss program. Mental makeup is plus as he is very coachable and is a hard worker.

08/20/2017 - Interactive Video Program - Kannapolis (Charlotte), NC Ben is a solid (2022 grad) at C/1B. Defensively behind the dish, head stays quiet as he tracks pitches into his glove. He tries to work around the ball and tries hard to block wild pitches off his chest. At 1B, he makes fluid actions with active footwork as he fields GB's in a square/athletic position. He funnels the ball with smooth hands and has a quick exchange to throw. At the plate, Ben gets back into a balanced load. He swings on a short/direct path through the zone and drives pitches on a line. Overall abilities in his game will improve with work on the following.

Infield
1. Work around more
2. Arm strength (long toss)
Catching
1. Low target
2. Quick exchange to throw
3. Accurate throws to 2B
Offense
1. Develop rhythm
2. Improve bat speed
3. Lower 1/2 drive

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
