Official Scouting Report

  • Class Rating
  • CPosition Projection

08/02/2017 - College PREP - Detroit, MI Ben continues to show a promising future on the diamond with improvement in his baseball abilities. At the plate, he has improved his hitting / power potential through a squared setup. Hands are quick and work through an aggressive swing path. He shows a feel for the barrel and has strength in his swing with gap-to-gap guy. Behind the plate, pop times have improved as he threw his lowest time to date at 2.07 with accuracy and carry on his throws. He displays outstanding arm strength and works to get rid of the baseball quickly. He shows a solid setup behind the dish and presents a soft glove that sticks balls well in the zone. He utilizes his body well through the blocking process and is a wall behind the plate.

07/31/2016 - College PREP - Detroit, MI Benjamin is a solid RHP/C who will graduate in 2019. On the mound, Benjamin shows a loose, clean delivery and throws a heavy ball. He has a four pitch mix with his fastball ranging from 77-84mph with good arm side run. Curveball sits from 65-66mph with 11-5 break. Slider sits from 65-67mph with 10-4 break. Changeup ranges from 65-66mph with tailing action to his arm side. Benjamin can improve as a pitcher by gaining more momentum to the plate in his delivery. Behind the plate, Benjamin shows good body control and uses his feet efficiently. His hands are sure and he presents them on time to receive the ball. He uses the proper footwork on his throws and has a clean exchange. Benjamin can improve defensively by staying tall while blocking balls in the dirt. In the box, Benjamin shows decent balance and has a square stride to the ball. He has an aggressive approach and has some decent bat speed. Benjamin can improve as a hitter by using his lower half more in his swing. Overall, Benjamin is a solid two way player and with three more years to develop he has the potential to contribute at the next level.

07/16/2015 - College PREP - Auburn Hills, MI Benjamin is a promising catch and throw guy that also pitched in his first outing with Baseball Factory. Defensively, he was flexible to sit, received with a soft glove, and had a clean exchange to throw. He was quiet with his actions, tracked the ball in and flashed pops in the 2.2 range. He has good projection as he continues to work on his quickness and arm strength. Offensively, he tracked to contact, had good balance in his stance, and a middle approach. He needs to work on boosting rhythm to be less restricted with his lower half, adding pop and fluidity. On the hill, he threw his FB from 66-71, spun a 10/4 CB from 59-61 and showed a CH with sink from 61-66. He was athletic on the bump, gathered himself well, had a clean arm swing back, and finished chest over front knee. All in all - Benjamin is a player to watch down the road as he progresses through high school.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
