Official Scouting Report

  • Class Rating
  • OF/RHPPosition Projection

01/14/2011 - Under Armour Pre-Season All-America - 2011 Parker continues to show as a two-way player in the OF plus on the mound but currently projects better in the OF for the next level. Feet are quick and active as he plays aggressively attacking balls through proper routes / angles. He needs to work on getting behind balls more to play through with momentum to his target. Hands and feet work well together as he gets rid of the baseball quickly with throws displaying life, carry, and accuracy into his target. Offensively, Benn shows a balanced approach that allows his hands to work directly to the baseball. He centers the ball well with ball jumping off of his bat. On the mound, fastball showed a range of 78-82 mph with slightly above average off-speed pitches.

08/09/2010 - College PREP - Trenton, NJ Benn showed similar abilities at Team One Northeast as he did at he previous workouts. Benn is an athletic OF with solid defensive skills. He is aggressive to the ball, he covers a lot of ground, and he gets behind the ball. Benn gets on top of his throws and delivers the ball accurately with carry to his target. At the plate, Benn has a good approach, quiet actions, and has a good idea. He has good bat speed, a level swing, and some pop when centered properly. Benn will be a nice offensive and defensive player at the next level.

07/25/2010 - Exclusive Filming Shoot - MD 3 Benn had an excellent workout as he improved his arm strength, fielding grade, and hitting grade. In the OF, showed excellent athleticism as he covered lots of ground and played thru balls aggressively. Every play he made was clean with accurate throws that would hit the cutoff man. Throws had correct spin with above-average carry. Got behind fly balls which allowed him to release them quickly after the catch. At the plate, showed a strong load which allowed him to explode to hitting zone with quick hands. Level swing thru hitting zone allowed him to hit ball to all fields with gap power. Showed good use of his lower half as he was able to consistently repeat his swing.

12/27/2009 - Christmas Camp and Tournament #2 Benn showed a plus eye at the plate through a balanced approach, tracking the ball well. He utilizes his quick, athletic feet well when he gets on the bases, displaying solid instincts and he will take the extra base. In the OF, he reads balls well off the bat, taking proper first steps in working to get behind the baseball. On the mound, fastball showed a range of 74-76 mph. Parker currently projects best in the OF for the next level. He is a very coachable and intelligent player who will be a good addition to a college team.

10/04/2009 - College PREP - Trenton, NJ Benn continues to show steady improvement with his baseball abilities. In the OF, got good read off bat as he got behind balls and played thru them aggressively. Fielded ball on proper side and got rid of it quickly as he followed thru towards target. Throws were accurate with good carry on them. Will show better range as he moves aggressively to balls. At the plate, he only hit from the right side. Had an aggressive approach as he showed above average bat speed. Ball jumped off his barrel especially on pull side. Stayed balance throughout swing which allowed him to use all fields. Had quick hands to plate when he didn't bar front arm. On the mound, had clean mechanics as everything was on time. Showed the ability to repeat his delivery every time. Good separation allowed him to release out front and get good extension thru pitches. Stringent long toss program will help improve velocity. Demonstrated good off speed pitches because he kept arm speed the same on all pitches.

07/29/2009 - Under Armour Southwest Regional Tournament - 2009 Benn is a young two-way player in the OF and on the mound with a solid average body that shows projection as he continues to physically mature. Currently, he projects best in the OF for the next level. Foot speed is above average as indicated by his 6.98 60 time. He utilizes his quick, athletic feet well in taking proper routes and angles in tracking down balls in the OF. Defensive abilities are near above average. Arm strength is near above average showing life, carry, and accuracy through a loose arm action. Hands and feet work well together in getting rid of the baseball quickly. At the plate, Parker shows as a switch hitter but only projects from the right side where he has solid average abilities and power through a balanced approach. He works to keep hands inside the ball, utilizing all fields and shows a feel for the barrel. On the mound, fastball shows a range of 78-82 mph showing occasional cutting action. Off speed pitches are average and need further development to be quality pitches at the next level. With 2 years to further develop, Parker has potential to be a solid collegiate player in the OF.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
