Official Scouting Report

05/12/2019 - College PREP - San Antonio, TX Billy continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities and has a promising future on the diamond. On the mound, delivery is sound / repeatable allowing his arm action to work free to the plate. Arm strength has improved as he threw his top velocity to date, topping out at 77 mph. Breaking ball displays 10/4 shape with gradual break. He maintains arm speed on his changeup and shows a feel for pitch with sinking action. Stock on the mound will continue to improve as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program. At the plate, he shows a squared setup. Hands are quick (82 mph exit velocity) and work through an aggressive swing path. He shows a feel for the barrel and makes consistent hard contact with power showing best to the pull side. At 1B, he displays smooth / fluid actions. He displays proper footwork around the bag and is a quality receiver. Feet are active but needs to attack balls more and play through with his body. Glove action is clean and presents well out front. Range will increase as he continues to improve foot quickness.

02/17/2019 - College PREP - Crosby (Houston), TX Billy is an athletic and talented 2-way prospect. At 1B, Billy is on time with his pre-step, he presents a low/early glove, and plays through his backhand. He works off the bag, creates a throwing lane on double plays, and makes accurate throws from multiple arm angles. At the plate, Billy starts in a closed stance and stays balanced through contact. He keeps a quiet head and looks to hit the ball to all fields. On the bump, Billy has confidence in his pitches and throws with intent. He gathers over the rubber, separates on time, and works north to south in his delivery. He commands his fastball on both sides of the plate, his curveball has a 10-5 break, and he shows fastball arm speed when throwing the changeup. Billy has a high baseball IQ and we hope to see his progress in the future.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "present" abilities (tools), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year, using the scale below. However, grades 10-18 are not available for use with High School players (ages 14-18), while grades 55-70 are not available for use with Pre High School players (ages 12-14). These instances are marked as "--- N/A ---" in the "Description" fields below.
