01/29/2017 - National Tryout Plus - Mechanicsburg (Harrisburg), PA Blaine continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities. At the plate, hitting/power potential have improved through an open setup. Hands are quick and work through a level swing path. He works to stay inside the ball, utilizing all fields through a line drive approach. Behind the plate, feet are active as he gains ground and works through a clean/transfer exchange as he gets rid of the baseball quickly. Pop times have improved as he threw his lowest time to date at 2.21. Times will continue to drop as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program. Hands are soft as he lets the ball travel and tracks well, sticking it in the zone. He uses his body well through the blocking process but needs to work to get down quicker and create better angles to improve grade. With 3 years to further develop, Blaine has abilities with time and room to progress his game.

07/24/2015 - Baseball Factory National World Series at Pirate City - Session 2 Blaine showed strictly as a MIF at the Baseball Factory National World Series at Pirate City. Defensively, he showed flashes of quick actions, and continuously attacked the baseball to get his hops. He had decent range and gained momentum to make and finish plays. Becoming more fluid to field both forehands and backhands and adding core strength to control his body are the next steps to improvement. Offensively, he found the barrel consistently and had an overall contact approach. He worked to use more lower half to hit and loosened his grip for boosted bat speed and pop. In all - Blaine has this fall and winter to add strength to his game by implementing the drills he worked on while at Pirate City.

04/26/2015 - Interactive Video Program - Plymouth Meeting (Philadelphia), PA Blaine is a young (2020 grad) 2-way player as a SS/RHP. Defensively in the MIF, he shows active prep footwork and is aggressive to come and get the GB. He funnels to a clean exchange and plays through the ball well, making accurate throws to 1B. With the bat, this RHH shows a square setup with good balance. He likes the pitch on the inner 1/2 and pulls it with some pop. On the mound, Blaine has a 3-pitch mix (FB, CB, KN) coming from a high 3/4 arm slot. He works to a good balance point, keeps his eyes on the target and works in-line toward the target. FB ranges from 59-62 mph while breaking ball has 'spinning' action with 11/5 shape. Overall abilities in his game will improve with work on the following.

Defense
1. DP turn
2. Footwork/agility
3. Exchange
Offense
1. Relax/Loosen grip
2. Lower 1/2 drive
3. Extension through finish
Pitching
1. Arm strength (long toss)
2. Finish with extension
3. Lengthen stride

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
