Official Scouting Report

  • SS/RHPPosition Projection

08/01/2018 - Baseball Factory National World Series at Pirate City - Session 2 (Ages 14-18) Blake is a coachable SS/RHP prospect who continued to work hard on his skills during his time at the National World Series at Pirate City. In the field, Blake fields the ball out in front of his body and makes accurate, on-line throws to his target. Blake can improve defensively by getting into a more athletic fielding position. At the plate, this RHH sets up in an athletic stance and takes a short stride. He takes a direct swing with decent bat speed which leads to consistent contact. Blake can improve as a hitter by working a smoother load into his swing. On the mound, Blake keeps his eyes on target as he gathers over the rubber and separates his hands on time. He works inline towards the plate and finishes with a controlled landing. Blake shows a two pitch mix with his fastball topping out at 82mph with tailing action. Breaking ball sits from 63-64mph with 11-5 break. Blake can improve as a pitcher by extending through more on his release. Overall, Blake is a solid prospect who has the potential to contribute as a two-way player at the next level.

02/04/2018 - College PREP - Dayton, OH Blake is a strong, athletic SS/RHP who has a promising future on the diamond. At the plate is where he shows best, displaying solid hitting / power potential through an athletic setup. Hands are quick and work through a level swing path. He has strength in his swing and stays inside the ball, utilizing all fields with gap-to-gap pop. In the MIF, he displays smooth / athletic actions. Feet are aggressive but needs to attack ball and play through more with his body. Hands are soft / sure but needs to present more out front. Range will continue to improve as he improves foot quickness. On the mound, fastball showed a range of 79-81 mph with cutting action. Breaking ball displays 1/7 shape with early break. He maintains arm speed on his changeup, showing a feel for pitch with sinking action. Stock on the mound will continue to rise as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program. Blake has potential with time and room to progress his game.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
