Official Scouting Report

  • Class Rating
  • RHP/2BPosition Projection

01/18/2019 - 2019 Under Armour All-America Pre-Season Tournament Blane is an athletic built RHP/2B prospect who has a versatile skill set. On the mound, Blane has a feel for pitching and he commands the strike zone. He has a small starter step leading into balanced mechanics. Blane has an early separation and throws from a 3/4 arm slot. He has a quick arm action and cuts off his release. Blane lands open to home plate and can benefit from a longer stride. He commands his fastball with run movement at 84-85 MPH. Blane changes speed well with a sharp curveball and deceptive changeup. In the field, Blane works hard and makes the routine plays. He moves with effective footwork and fields the ball in a square position. Blane has a quick arm action throwing from a 3/4 arm slot. He gets rid of the ball quickly leading into accurate, strong throws. Offensively, Blane has an open setup with high hands. He has a complex load with a heavy stride. Blane uses his lower half throughout his swing. He shows an inconsistent swing path and is developing bat speed. Blane can drive the ball to the pull side. Overall, Blane is a well-rounded prospect who has potential to get even better.

08/20/2017 - College PREP - Lebanon (Nashville), TN Blane is a solid, thick RHP/SS who has a promising future on the diamond. At the plate is where he shows best, displaying solid hitting abilities with well above average power potential through an athletic setup. Hands are quick and work through a level / aggressive swing path. He has strength and stays inside the ball, utilizing all fields with gap-to-gap pop. At SS, defensive abilities are solid as he displays smooth / athletic actions. Feet are aggressive as he attacks balls and plays through well with his body. Hands are soft / sure and presents well out front. Range will increase as he improves foot quickness. On the mound, delivery is sound / repeatable allowing his arm action to work free to the plate. Fastball showed a range of 80-81 mph with arm side run. Slider displays 11/5 shape with late break. He maintains arm speed on his changeup and shows a feel for pitch with sinking action. Off speed stuff show as quality pitches that will get outs. Stock on the mound will continue to rise as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program. With 2 years to further develop, Blane has the makings of a special type player with time and room to progress his game.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
