Official Scouting Report

  • Class Rating
  • RHP/OFPosition Projection

12/27/2013 - Baseball Factory Christmas Camp & Tournament at Pirate City Blaze showed great energy, and some improvements in his game during his time at Pirate City. On the hill, Blaze stands over the rubber well, he has a free / fluid arm action, and he lands in a square position. He pitches to contact and he fields his position well. In the OF, Blaze has raw / athletic actions, good footwork, and soft hands. He moves well to the ball and has accuracy to his target. Offensively, Blaze has quick bat speed, good balance, and direct hands to the ball. He is a true teammate, working hard and making everyone around him better.

07/15/2013 - College PREP - Trenton, NJ Blaze is a tall, athletic RHP/3B that will graduate in 2014. Foot speed is slightly above average as indicated by his 7.41 60 time. Feet are active as he works to square up balls, plays through and presents soft / clean hands well out front. Throws are accurate but needs to build more arm strength through a long toss program. At the plate, he shows an athletic balanced setup. Hands are loose and work through an aggressive level swing path. For hitting grades to continue to improve, he needs to work to stay inside the ball to utilize all fields. Power numbers will continue to improve as he learns to use his lower half more. On the mound, fastball showed a range of 75-77 mph with arm side run. Breaking ball displays 11/5 shape with gradual break and shows as a quality pitch when he stays on top. He maintains arm speed on his changeup, showing a feel for with arm side run. Control is a plus as he throws strikes with all his pitches. Stock on the mound will continue to improve as he builds more arm strength. Blaze has abilities with a lot of room to improve.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "present" abilities (tools), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year, using the scale below. However, grades 10-18 are not available for use with High School players (ages 14-18), while grades 55-70 are not available for use with Pre High School players (ages 12-14). These instances are marked as "--- N/A ---" in the "Description" fields below.
