Official Scouting Report

  • 1B/OFPosition Projection

12/27/2018 - 2018 Inaugural West Coast Winter Classic - La Verne, CA Blaze is a coachable 1B/OF prospect who worked hard on his skills during his time at the West Coast Winter Classic. In the field, Blaze makes the routine plays and fields with soft hands. He throws from a low 3/4 angle and works to keep his throws accurate to his target. Getting into a more athletic fielding position can help Blaze improve defensively. At the plate, this LHH sets up in an open stance and takes a square stride. He gets into a simple load on time and shows plus barrel control, spraying the ball to all fields. Blaze can improve as a hitter by driving his lower half more. With four more years to develop, Blaze has the time and potential to further progress his skills on the field.

10/07/2018 - Interactive Video Program - Spokane, WA Blaze is a young, 2-way player who plays OF and 1st base. In the OF, Blaze reads the ball off the bat well, he has a quick 1st step, and shows athletic actions. He has firm hands, a clean exchange, and throws with a loose arm with consistency to his target. At 1B, Blaze has active feet, he fields in a low position, and has a clean release with momentum toward his target. Offensively, Blaze has a tall set-up, he loads well, and stands in with good balance. He has fast bat speed, makes square/level contact, and uses some lower body. Blaze can improve already solid skills with work on the following.

Outfield
1. Aggressiveness
2. Arm strength
3. Quicken feet
Infield
1. Fielding position
2. Angles
Offense
1. Avoid lunging
2. Lower body

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "present" abilities (tools), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year, using the scale below. However, grades 10-18 are not available for use with High School players (ages 14-18), while grades 55-70 are not available for use with Pre High School players (ages 12-14). These instances are marked as "--- N/A ---" in the "Description" fields below.
