Official Scouting Report

  • Class Rating
  • RHP/SSPosition Projection

12/27/2011 - Pirate City Christmas Camp and Tournament - Session 2 Bobby showed well both on the mound and at SS during his time in Pirate City. On the hill, Bobby has a compact delivery, he breaks his hands at his waist, and he has good direction toward home. He has a high leg kick, he works in good tempo, and he competes in the zone with his pitches. At SS, Bobby has an athletic set-up, good aggressiveness to the ball, and his hands work well. He moves well laterally, makes the routine plays, and he throws with accuracy across the diamond. Offensively, Bobby showed a good set-up, an aggressive swing, and a good bat path. He has a line drive approach and can spray some to all fields.

10/09/2011 - College PREP - Scranton, PA Gould is an athletic and solid two-sport athlete who is a SS / RHP. Gould has good rhythm and direction in his delivery on the mound, and should continue to develop his delivery as he learns to work downhill consistently. Defensively, he has sure hands with good feeds and plenty of carry on his throws across the diamond, but needs to work on playing through the ball. At the plate, he has good balance and gets his lower half through well, and will continue to improve as he learns to keep his hands through the zone. With two years of high school baseball he has the opportunity to continue to develop his skills and prepare for the next level.

07/10/2011 - Select Training at the All-Star Game Gould continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities. Arm strength has improved through a long, loose arm action as he topped out at 78 mph. He will benefit by staying on a long toss program to aid in building more arm strength and raising velocities. Fastball showed a range of 76-78 mph with arm side run and sink. Breaking ball flashed depth but needs to work on a more consistent release point. Changeup shows average feel for with slight run. At SS, feet are active as he is fluid through his actions and displays soft, clean hands. He needs to work on getting rid of the baseball quicker through a quicker transfer / exchange. Lateral movement, especially to his backhand side, flashing range. Offensively, hitting grades have improved to solid average through a balanced approach and good tempo. Swing path is short and simple, flashing bat speed with a solid feel for the barrel. He needs to work on keeping hands inside the ball to utilize all fields.

08/05/2010 - Vero Beach Pro Select Training and Competition - 2010 Bobby is a young (2013) two-way player on the mound plus at SS with a tall, thin frame that shows projection as he continues to physically mature, filling out. Foot speed well above average as indicated by his 7.08 60 time. Feet are active in coming to get the ball but needs to play through more with his body. He moves well laterally, displaying range as he displays a soft, clean, and sure glove action. Throws show accuracy, flashing carry as he will benefit by getting on a long toss program to develop more arm strength. Offensively, Gould shows a balanced approach as he works to keep hands inside the ball, utilizing all fields. He shows a feel for the barrel with swing path getting long due to arm bar created in his load. On the mound, he shows a solid mound presence with fastball showing a range of 73-75 mph with some bore on a downhill plane. Off speed pitches are average showing potential to be quality pitches as he continues to develop through a clean arm action. With 3 years to further develop, Bobby has abilities with time and room to improve.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
