10/18/2015 - National Tryout Plus - Lexington, KY Armstrong continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities. At the plate is where he has improved the most through an athletic setup. Hands are quick, flashing bat speed through a level swing path. He shows a feel for the barrel with baseball jumping off the bat when centered, mainly to the pull side. At 1B, he displays solid footwork around the bag and is a quality receiver. Hands are soft / sure and consistently showed the ability to pick balls out of the dirt, saving throws. Feet are active as he works around balls and plays through with his body, presenting glove well out front. He utilizes quick feet well in his lateral movements, showing solid range.

05/03/2015 - College PREP - Adrian (Detroit), MI Bowen showed yet again as an athletic (7.18 sixty) and projectable built 1B/OF. Defensively at first, he prepped his feet and moved efficiently to get his body into position to field. He was soft with the glove to secure the ball, and with more aggressiveness to come get will begin securing his hops more frequently. In the OF, he worked a low approach to make plays with a subtle glove and controlled body. He had a loose arm to throw and was on-line to his targets. Offensively, he worked the barrel inside the ball and stayed in the middle of the field. He was quiet with his head movement which allowed for some barrel accuracy, despite being over-gripped at times. In all - Bowen continues to show projection with his L/L playing ability.

09/21/2014 - National Tryout - Detroit, MI Bowen is an active and versatile 2016 grad. At 1B he showed improvement with an accurate arm, active steps towards the ball, and soft but sure hands. In the OF, he does a great job of getting behind the ball and staying active while he plays through with his throw/crow hop towards his target. He delivers accurate feeds to each bag on a line. Bowen will see his abilities improve in the OF by getting better reads and developing more range. At the plate, he has a solid approach working through the middle of the field. By developing strength and keeping his head still and level, Bowen will see his hitting abilities improve.

11/10/2011 - Pirate City Select Training - 2011 (Pre HS) Bowen is an athletic/tall/high reared 2016 graduate who plays 1B and is a LHP. He throws from a high 3/4 arm slot with long/loose action and showed carry. Long toss will help him to progress his arm strength. As an infielder Bowen displayed sure hands but he does have a tendency to use one hand. His footwork is active/efficient and he plays through the ball well. He fields from an athletic position (a bit high) and he showed good agility. On the mound Bowen has good potential but he needs to use his athleticism. He needs to hold his backside (tendency to drift), use his glove arm more and he needs to hold his finish (tendency to run through). At the plate Bowen has a short/square stride, lower half is on time and he has a line drive approach. He needs to develop a load and keep his weight back primarily. Bowen showed good improvement with his balance at camp which is a good sign. If he continues work at his game Bowen has a very good chance at succeeding in baseball.

08/15/2011 - Interactive Video Program - Adrian (Detroit), MI Bowen is a thin 1st baseman with a tall build. Defensively, Bowen has soft / sure hands, he presents his glove well, and he stays low to the ground. He has playable feet, he fields the ball in a square position, out in front of his body. Bowen has a clean exchange, and he throws with a loose arm action with accuracy and average strength to his target. Offensively, Bowen has a tall / square set-up, a proper load, and good balance. He is short to the ball, his swing is level, and he can spray to all fields. Bowen puts the ball in play, and he makes good use of his lower 1/2. Overall abilities can improve if Bowen can work on the following.

Defense
1. Quicken feet
2. Use 2 hands
3. Add arm strength
Offense
1. Widen base
2. Loosen grip
3. Add bat speed

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
