08/23/2008 - ACR-E - California - 3 Brad has an athletic body and has raw talent at the present time. Gains ground when throwing and has soft hands receiving. Would like to see him work on his mechanics, and with his athleticism should be able to make improvements quickly. Needs reps to polish up a few things but will be fine. Showed his athleticism blocking, stayed low, centered balls well and was quick to recover. At the plate, showed consistent contact with a repeatable swing. Hit several line drives and used all fields. We have seen Brad several times and he continues to show that he is a leader on the field and has outstanding makeup.

06/19/2008 - Omaha Pro Select Training and Tournament - 2008 Brad shows excellent leadership skills for a catcher. He improved his 60-time and pop times. At the plate, has good bat speed with gap power. Shows good lower and trigger with balance throughout swing. Has ability to stay inside ball and make good contact every time. Needs to let ball travel instead of getting out on front foot and not being able to use lower half. Behind the plate, shows soft hands when receiving. His quick feet allow him to take good angles and block well. Has quick exchange on throws to 2B. Work on sticking the low pitch and getting around ball to stick ball on glove side.

04/13/2008 - College PREP - Azusa, CA Brad is a tall lean athlete with above average skills. He has come to many events and has improved each time especially with his foot speed. Behind the plate, he shows arm strength and has decreased his pop times 2 tenths of a second in recent months. He has soft hands and receives the ball with a quiet body. He gets down quickly to block balls in the dirt, but still is a little slow to recover the ball. Working on quickness drills will help. At the plate, has a short quick swing with good use of the lower half. Needs to load his hands in order to generate some momentum. He has some pop especially to the pull side.

02/10/2008 - College PREP - El Cajon, CA Brad shows as a two-way player in the outfield and behind the plate. He presently projects best behind the plate, mainly due to his foot speed. His arm action is loose and easy and displays the ability to use his entire body well in the throwing process; he stays behind and follows through with his feet and body. He does need to continue to build arm strength through a strict long toss program. Behind the plate, Brad shows soft hands, quiet body and works his mitt around the baseball in the receiving process. He is a solid average blocker and works hard to keep everything in front of him. At the plate, Brad once again shows solid average ability. He stays balanced and does a nice job of tracking the baseball in. He consistently showed the ability to find the barrel and works to keep his hands inside utilizing the entire field. His body is athletic and is only going to get stronger as he physically matures. Brad shows a lot of potential to be a solid player at the next level.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
