Official Scouting Report

07/28/2015 - College PREP - Raleigh, NC Brad continues to show improvements in his abilities and a promising future on the diamond on the mound and at 1B. Foot speed has improved as he ran his best 60 time to date. On the mound, arm strength has improved as he threw his top velocity to date, topping out at 81 mph. Fastball showed a range of 78-81 mph with arm side run. Breaking ball displays 11/5 shape with gradual break. He maintains arm speed on his changeup with sinking action. Control is solid as he throws strikes with all his pitches. Stock on the mound will continue to improve as he builds more arm strength through a long toss program. At 1B, he displays proper footwork around the bag and is a quality receiver. Hands are soft / sure and he consistently showed the ability to pick balls out of the dirt, saving throws. At the plate, he shows an athletic setup with balance. Hands are quick, flashing bat speed and utilize his lower half well. Barrel accuracy is a plus with baseball jumping off the bat when centered. Hitting grade will continue to improve as he works to get stride foot down sooner to work on time.

07/29/2014 - National Tryout - Raleigh, NC Brad continues to show well. On the mound, he works downhill and in-line toward his target. He spots up well moving his FB to both sides of the plate. He keeps the ball down in the zone and will get ground balls. With the bat, this LH swinger shows a balanced approach with rhythm. He consistently barrels up the ball and hits it to all fields. At 1B, he fields with soft/sure hands and has the ability to pick throws out of the dirt. A 2016 grad - Brad should find success on the diamond.

12/27/2013 - Baseball Factory Christmas Camp & Tournament at Pirate City Brad showed as a RHP and at 1B for the first time at the event where he projects best for the next level. At the plate is where he shows best, displaying well above average hitting and power grades through a squared / athletic setup. Hands are quick, generating plus bat speed and work through a level swing path. He shows a feel for the barrel and has strength in his swing with ball exploding off the bat when centered, displaying pop. At the event, he was 2 for 7 with 2B. At 1B, defensive grade are solid as he shows smooth / clean actions. Feet are active as he displays proper footwork around the bag and is a quality receiver. He works to square ground balls up, displaying clean hands as he makes the routine plays. Throws are accurate but will benefit by building more arm strength through a long toss program. On the mound, Fastball showed a range of 74-76 mph. Breaking ball displays 11/5 shape with gradual break. Stock on the mound will continue to rise as he builds more arm strength and work to throw more strikes. Mental makeup is a plus as he has athletic abilities, plays hard, and is very coachable with a strong athletic body.

07/30/2013 - College PREP - Raleigh, NC Brad is a young, solid, RHP who will graduate in 2016. On the mound, Brad has a long / loose arm action, a controlled balance point, and on-time separation. He has level shoulders, good direction toward home, and he finishes in a complete position. More extension on his pitches and added arm strength will help mound effectiveness further improve. At the plate, Brad has an open set-up, good balance, and a short stride. He is short to the ball, his swing is level, and he uses his lower 1/2 well. Closing off his stride and adding bat speed will further improve offensive numbers.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
