Official Scouting Report

  • Class Rating
  • RHP/OFPosition Projection

12/20/2016 - Baseball Factory Christmas Camp & Tournament at Pirate City - Session 1 Braden is a hardworking RHP/OF prospect who continues to progress his game. On the mound, Braden has excellent poise and a good overall feel for pitching. He has a balanced, on-time delivery throwing from a high 3/4 arm slot with a loose arm action. Braden extends through his release while staying square towards home plate with proper stride length. He does a nice job finishing with his chest over his front knee. Braden's fastball has good sink and his curveball breaks 12-6. He also throws a deceptive change-up with the same arm speed as his fastball. Defensively, Braden plays with good reads and effective footwork taking the correct angles to cover good ground. He fields the ball athletically with a soft glove and a clean exchange. He plays with momentum through the baseball and has good arm strength showing accurate throws. Offensively, Braden has an athletic stance with his weight back. He takes a long stride and has an upward swing path. Braden has a contact approach and shows solid results to the opposite field. Overall, Braden has potential to develop into a solid prospect as he continues to develop.

10/30/2016 - College PREP - Sanford (Orlando), FL Braden again impressed in his most recent outing in Sanford FL. On the mound, Braden threw an easy 76-78 mph with his fastball that had late sinking life to it, and showing plus command with it (7-10 for strikes). His offspeed offerings included a changeup that showed late, diving action and a curveball that had tight spin but was at times left up in the zone due to a shortened stride. Mechanically, Braden was compact and had controlled tempo and pace. Driving his front leg directly to the plate, as opposed to whipping out and around, will help keep his front side closed for longer. In the outfield, Braden played through the ball well, creating momentum toward the plate, allowing him to make strong/accurate throws. Offensively, he showed an on time stride/load and a lower 1/2 that was fully utilized in each swing. Overall, Braden shows tremendous upside on the mound and will be exciting to track as he progresses in this game.

01/15/2016 - Baseball Factory All-America Pre-Season Rookie Tournament Halladay stands a long and slender 6-foot-1 and 135 pounds and showed command of a fastball that reached into the upper 70s with sinking action. He maintained great poise and mound presence, and consistently worked ahead in the count. His delivery was simple and balanced, allowing his arm to work on a natural stroke from the glove and out front. He backed off nicely on a mid 60s changeup that came from the same arm stroke as his fastball, and spun a low to mid 60s breaking ball when needed. His feel for pitching is advanced, and his stuff projects to improve quite a bit as he matures physically. Though he has the most potential on the mound, he offers some value as a two-way player. It doesn't appear to come as naturally as it does on the mound, but there are some pieces to work with. He has solid hand-eye coordination and some bat to ball skill, just needs to work on incorporating more from the rotation of his core to work the barrel better through the hitting zone. Defensively, he reacted well to the ball off the bat, and showed the body control the make plays moving laterally and around the bag. Overall, he combines a projectable frame with excellent bloodlines and an already advanced feel for pitching -- which should make him a very interesting prospect as his stuff continues to catch up with his ability to pitch, we've already seen a seven mph increase on the top end of his fastball since November 2015.

11/01/2015 - College PREP - Tampa, FL Braden is a 2-way player as a RHP/1B who has a tall/projectable frame (6'1"/135). On the mound, this righty has a 3-pitch mix coming from a high 3/4 arm slot and loose/free arm action. He keeps his eyes on the target, stays directional and repeats his delivery well. He maintains fluid rhythm/tempo and has smooth separation. FB ranges from 69-71 mph with slight tail & sink. Breaking ball has 10/4 shape with early action. Changeup is thrown with FB arm speed helping to create some deception. More lower 1/2 drive off of the rubber will help to tap into added velocity. At 1B - Halladay shows good body control as he hustles into a square fielding position behind the GB. He has good bag awareness and makes adjustments to inaccurate throws. With the bat, this RH swinger has a balanced setup with active hands. He tracks pitches into the zone and whips the barrel with loose hands, engaging his lower 1/2. Swinging on a shorter/more direct path with more bat speed will increase power at the plate. Only a 2019 grad - Braden still has time to develop and physically mature (get stronger).

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
