Official Scouting Report

01/18/2013 - 2013 Under Armour All-America Pre-Season Tournament Brady continues to improve and impress as a potential collegiate 2 way player. At the plate, Brady looked comfortable and confident while showing his ability to hit the ball hard to all fields. He showed pop gap top gap with centered balance and the ability to slow the game down. As a 3B, Brady covers the 5/6 hole really well with good foot work/first step to his glove side. Soft hands and an athletic fielding position make him a consistent defender with the athletic ability to make the great play. On the mound, Brady works downhill, showed a solid glove pull and keeps his delivery simple with balance throughout. He has a good mound presence while keeping his defenders fresh by pitching to contact with smooth rhythm and tempo through a simple delivery.

08/06/2012 - Baseball Factory National World Series at Pirate City - Session 2 Brady showed well during his time in Pirate City and ended up taking home MVP honors at the event. At 3B, Brady presents his glove well, he has good hands that are very smooth and soft, and he keeps the ball in front, flashing big play potential. He follows his throws and has accuracy to his target with a loose arm action. On the mound, Brady works to his balance point well, he has proper separation, and he has good command of his pitches. During games, he was a ground ball machine, going 3 innings without giving up a run. He has good upside on the mound as well. Offensively is where Brady continues to shine. He has a strong set-up, a quiet load, and a level swing. He keeps his hands inside the ball and has pop in his bat. Overall, Brady has a very good feel for the game and has great instincts. He is going to be a great addition to a college program in a couple of years.

06/03/2012 - College PREP - Atlanta, GA Brady is a solid, athletic 3B/RHP that will graduate in 2014. Defensively, his feet are active as he moves well laterally and displays clean hands. To improve defensive grades, he can attack balls more and play through more, while also improving foot speed. Throws are accurate with carry across the diamond as he gets rid of the baseball quickly. At the plate, Smith shines through a solid / athletic setup. Hands are quick, generating bat speed through a level swing path. Barrel accuracy is a plus with baseball jumping off his bat when centered, mainly to the pull side. To continue to improve hitting grades he needs to work to keep hands inside the ball, utilizing all fields. Power numbers will continue to improve as he learns to use his lower half more through the swing. On the mound, fastball shows a range of 77-79 mph. Breaking ball displays 11/5 shape with late breaking action. He maintains arm speed on his change but needs to develop more movement. He throws strikes with all his pitches with stock on the mound rising as more arm strength is developed. He currently projects better as a 3B/hitter, but has potential on the mound as well.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
