07/20/2015 - 2015 Under Armour Showcase: Baseball Factory's National West Branden continues to shine on the diamond. In the OF, he takes a quick first step and tracks down fly-balls with speed to his right and left. Actions are smooth with a quick transfer to throw. At the plate, this lefty works back into a strong launch position with leverage as he's ready to jump on pitches in the zone. Bat whips through the zone as he drives the ball on a line. He barrels the ball up and scoots down the 1B line with speed. Branden (6'0"/185) OF has a top of upside and is one to watch over the next couple of years.

04/12/2015 - College PREP - Costa Mesa (Los Angeles), CA Branden is a young, athletic OF/LHP that will graduate in 2018 with a promising future on the diamond. Foot speed is outstanding as indicated by his 6.93 60 time. Defensive grade in the OF are tremendous as he displays smooth / clean actions. He utilizes his athletic feet well in taking proper routes / angles in tracking down balls and works to get behind balls, playing through with momentum to his target. Reads are outstanding and he covers a lot of ground, displaying range in the OF. Throws are accurate, with on line carry as he gets rid of the baseball quickly. At the plate, he continues to shine through an athletic setup. Hands are quick, generating bat speed and work through a level swing path and aggressive approach. He shows a feel for the barrel with baseball exploding off the bat when centered as he works to keep hands inside the ball to utilize all fields, displaying gap to gap pop. On the mound, arm strength is outstanding as indicated by his top velocity of 85 mph. Fastball showed a range of 84-85 mph with arm side run. Breaking ball displays 1/7 shape with gradual break. He maintains arm speed on his changeup, showing a feel for with sinking action. Control is a plus as he throws strikes with all his pitches. With 3 years to further develop, Branden has the makings of a special type player and will catch the eyes of the collegiate coaches with his baseball abilities, possibly as a two-way guy.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
