01/26/2020 - College PREP - Mont Belvieu (Houston), TX Gage is a lean catcher who has a promising future on the diamond. Behind the plate, feet are active as he works in line through a clean transfer / exchange as he gets rid of the baseball quickly. Pop times show a range of 2.10 with accuracy and carry (82 mph velocity) on his throws. Times will continue to drop as he continues to build more arm strength through a long toss program and works to get rid of the baseball quicker. He shows a squared setup and presents a soft mitt out front and utilizes his body through the blocking process, centering ball well out front. At the plate, he shows a closed setup. Hands are quick and work through level swing path. He stays inside the ball, utilizing all fields, flashing gap-to-gap pop. With 3 years to further develop, Gage has potential with time and room to progress his game.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
