06/06/2017 - 2017 Under Armour Showcase: Baseball Factory's National Texas Brandon only showed on the mound at the event and is a top prospect on the diamond. On the bump, he had a solid showing at the event. He attacks hitters, throwing a lot of strikes as he works to get ahead of hitters through a quick tempo. Arm strength has improved as he threw his top velocity to date at 93 mph. Fastball showed range of 89-91 mph on a downhill plane. Breaking ball displays 10/4 shape with late break. He maintains arm speed on his changeup, showing a feel for with sinking action. Brandon has a tremendous upside on the diamond and will get looks from the pro scouts and top collegiate coaches with his baseball abilities.

01/15/2016 - Under Armour All-America Pre-Season Tournament Brandon is one of the top 2-way players in the 2018 class, showing his athleticism and feel for the game in multiple facets. On the mound, he flashed his impressive stuff in a cold, early game against a loaded line-up from the Georgia team. His coordinated delivery and quick arm led to upper 80s velocity, and he looked like he was just playing catch. He attacked hitters mainly with a mix of a tailing fastball and tight slider. As a position player Brandon used a short, quick stroke and a strong lower half to drive balls during his BP session. He has the ability to manipulate the barrel and squares up a lot of pitches. Defensively he showed clean actions, sure hands and a strong arm at 3B. He is versatile enough to play anywhere on the field, though his highest ceiling appears to be on the mound. He is an exciting prospect to follow.

07/22/2015 - Under Armour Southwest Championships 16U, powered by Baseball Factory's Team One Brandon has molded himself into a highly touted prospect who can make things happen. This athletic (6'1"/190) 2-way player has a solid/projectable build. On the mound, this righty repeats well and pounds the zone with strikes. FB jumps out of his hand coming from a loose/free arm action. He works to get ahead in the count, keeps the ball down in the zone and will get a lot of GB outs. FB cracks the mitt at 87 mph while showing some run. As a hitter, Brandon has a tall/athletic/balanced setup with a solid base. Hands are lightning quick as he whips the barrel with speed and connects with strength. He hits the ball where it's puts, spraying it to all parts of the park. At 3B, Brandon works lightly on the balls of his feet and presents his glove out in front. Transfer/release is quick as he zips strong throws with carry across the diamond (91 mph). Brandon is athletic enough to play multiple spots on the diamond. This player is fun to watch (only a 2018 grad) - Brandon Birdsell will be a name to look out for in the upcoming years.

12/27/2014 - Baseball Factory Christmas Camp & Tournament at Pirate City - Session 2 Brandon is a very exciting prospect to keep an eye on. On the mound, Brandon gets to good balance point, works at a good pace, and commands his fastball and curveball. His fastball was 82-84 with late arm side run. At 3B, Brandon has sure hands and has good range to both glove side and to his backhand. He will continue to improve as he learns to play through the ball with more consistency. At the plate, Brandon has quick hands, a balanced setup, and swings on a level path. Power will increase as he learns to incorporate his lower ½ more. Overall, Brandon is going to be a guy that over the next 3 years will be on a lot of college coaches radar.

06/16/2014 - National Tryout - Houston, TX Brandon is a good young player that showed his best ability to date in his most recent Baseball Factory outing. Defensively, he worked with efficient feet and was clean with his feeds, at short. Pre-pitch footwork, backhand mechanics, and arm strengthening drills are essential for his defensive growth. Offensively, he was loose with his grip and flashed good bat speed with pull side pop. He got extended through contact at times and will continue to improve with more lower half use and better timing. On the mound, he threw three pitches, topping out at 81 MPH with his fastball and mixed in a CB and CH. He has some feel, but needs to work on his release point consistency. All in all - we enjoy tracking the progress Brandon makes from event to event and look forward to tracking him throughout high school.

12/27/2013 - Baseball Factory Winter Classic Brandon is a very talented player in all aspects of his game. As an infielder he showed good arm strength and physical skills. Improvements can be made by getting a better prep, playing around/through the ball and positioning feet to his target. On the mound he displayed a repeatable delivery, throws strikes and has good life on fastball. Brandon can focus on using his lower half, getting more extension and finishing pitches. As with his overall game Brandon has great physical ability but he needs to stride at pitcher, clean up his load, keep hands higher and allow the ball to travel into the proper hitting zone (use the entire field). Brandon possesses all the natural ability to be a standout player if he continues to work and makes the necessary adjustments.

11/16/2013 - Interactive Video Program - Houston, TX Brandon is a long, athletic, 2-way player who pitches and plays SS. On the mound, Brandon has a free arm action, he keeps his eyes on target, and he separates on time. He lands in a square position, and his CB shows good shape. Defensively, Brandon is aggressive to the ball, he has efficient footwork, and his hands are playable. He moves well to the ball and delivers it with a short arm action to his target. Offensively, Brandon has an athletic set-up, a level swing, and quick hands. He has a middle approach, makes solid contact, and he gets late explosion through the ball. Overall abilities can improve with work on the following.

Pitching
1. Windup
2. Finish
3. Long toss
Defense
1. Exchange
2. Avoid stabbing
3. Play more through
Offense
1. More lower 1/2
2. Let ball travel
3. Shorten swing

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
