01/25/2015 - National Tryout - Delray Beach, FL This versatile athlete continues to impress. He has plus lateral ranges while working around the GB with fluid/smooth actions. Ball is quick/clean from glove to hand as he has a cannon for an arm (89 mph). In the OF, he moves well light on his feet (6.72 60 yard dash) with effortless actions. With the bat, Chinea whips the barrel on a short/direct path to and through the zone. he makes consistent hard contact and gets out of the box with a hard 90 down the line, putting pressure on the defense. A Tennessee commit - Brandon is an exciting player that will be fun to watch in the upcoming years.

09/20/2014 - 2014 Under Armour Showcase: Futures East Chinea is an instinctual player with an advanced feel for the game. If you only see him workout you will not see all the things he can do. He ran 6.95 in the 60 yard dash, and got down the line as well as 4.19 from the right side of the plate. Defensively, his actions were simple and efficient - no wasted motion, everything was directed thru the play on the ball. His hands were extremely soft and sure, and his feet worked easily thru the play on the ball and into the release. He gives every reason to believe that he could play the game at a very high speed with ease. At the plate, he has a line drive stroke with excellent barrel accuracy. He's got better pop than you might think looking at him, the ball comes off his bat consistently from the sweet spot - and he created backspin to carry the ball into the OF. He is aggressive to attack fastballs early in counts, and runs the bases aggressively. Overall, a instinctual and naturally gifted "baseball player" with usable tools.

06/12/2013 - Under Armour Showcase: Baseball Factory's Team One Florida Chinea posted 6.97 in the 60 yard dash, down from the 7.00 we saw in January 2013, and got down the line in 4.24 from the right side of the plate - an improvement of over one tenth of a second from what we saw most recently. Defensively, he stayed down with the ball well and showed arm strength across the infield - throws had on line carry to target. Has room to be more active with his footwork and approach to the ball, to soften his hands and glove action, and to shorten his actions on double play feeds and turns. At the plate, he featured a simple and repeatable approach. He hit from a square setup, and stayed level with his path. Got solid line drive contact with ease, showed good hand-eye coordination and barrel accuracy. Has a great foundation to build on offensively as he matures physically. Only a 2016 graduate, and already shows high level speed, arm strength and hitting ability.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
