Official Scouting Report

  • Class Rating
  • OF/RHPPosition Projection

05/27/2012 - College PREP - Lebanon (Nashville), TN Grant improved his foot speed as he ran his best time to date, now a 7.35 runner. Arm strength on the mound has improved as well as he topped out at 79 mph but currently projects best in the OF for the next level. Feet are quick / aggressive as he reads balls well off the bat and take proper routes / angles in tracking down balls. At the plate, he loads well and works to keep hands inside the ball, utilizing all fields. Power numbers will continue to improve as he learns to use his lower half more efficiently through the swing. On the mound, fastball showed a range of 76-79 mph.

12/27/2011 - Pirate City Christmas Camp and Tournament - Session 2 Grant worked out both on the mound and in the OF during his time in Pirate City. Defensively, Grant takes good routes and angles to the ball, he shows good range, and he plays through properly. He has a clean exchange, and throws with accuracy to his target. On the mound, Grant has good mechanics, he works in good tempo, and he attacks the zone. He has good command of his FB and he pitches to contact. At the plate, Grant has good rhythm and timing, he makes good contact, and he uses his body well to swing.

08/21/2011 - College PREP - Lebanon (Nashville), TN Grant continues to show improvements in his baseball abilities and shows as a two-way player as a RHP / OF. Currently, he projects best in the OF for the next level. Foot speed has improved as he ran his best 60 time to date but will benefit by getting on a speed / agility program to improve foot quickness for the next level. He is a fundamentally sound OF that reads balls well off the bat while taking proper routes / angles in tracking down balls. He works to get behind and plays through with momentum to his target. Offensively, Brandon shows a balanced setup with rhythm. Hands are quick, flashing bat speed as he shows a solid feel for the barrel with the baseball jumping off his bat when centered. Swing path gets long due to arm bar created in his load as he needs to work to keep hands inside the ball to utilize all fields. On the mound, fastball shows a range of 73-76 mph on a slight downhill plane. Changeup has improved showing as his best off-speed pitch as he displays a solid feel for with arm side run. Breaking ball shows a 10/4 shape with gradual break.

05/29/2011 - College PREP - Lebanon (Nashville), TN Brandon is a thin, athletic RHP with will graduate in 2013. Delivery is repeatable as he works on time with eyes on target. He has some mechanical flaws that are hindering his arm action to work to full potential as he will benefit by getting instruction to improve flaws. Arm strength is below average as he will benefit by getting on a long toss program to aid in building more arm strength while raising velocities. Fastball shows a range of 72-76 mph on a flat plane. Off speed pitches are average, needing further development to be quality pitches for the next level. Breaking ball displays 11/5 shape with gradual break. Changeup shows average feel for with arm side run but slows arm speed, tipping off pitch. Command / control are a plus as he throws strikes with all his pitches. Stock on the mound will rise quickly if more arm strength is developed.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
