Official Scouting Report

  • Class Rating
  • OFPosition Projection

10/26/2008 - College PREP - Atlanta, GA Palmer showed as a two way player in the outfield and on the mound. This was the first time that we have evaluated him from the mound. He does project better from the outfield where he has a ton of athletic ability. He utilizes his quick feet in taking proper routes and angles to track down balls in the outfield. Arm strength is solid average and needs to get on a strict long toss program to aid in building more arm strength. His throws do have carry and accuracy that will improve if he learns to finish his throws with his feet and body. At the plate, Palmer keeps his hands inside the baseball, utilizing all fields. He is a line drive type hitter that keeps the barrel through the baseball at the point of contact. On the mound, Brandon has near average ability and needs to concentrate his work ethic in the outfield where his future is at the collegiate level.

10/15/2008 - Arizona Senior Fall Classic - 2008 Palmer improved his 60-yard dash again, down from 7.09 to 7.02. At the plate, he showed quick hands and solid overall bat speed - his hands and wrists have good life, and allow him to whip the bat through the zone at times. He held his balance well also, which allowed him to show gap power at times. Mainly needs to improve consistency, starting with stride - tended to stride long and heavy, causing excess head and eye movement and a tendency to chase pitches. Needs a more stable base to help improve plate discipline and his ability to track pitches. Topped at 78 on the mound, and showed some control of his 64-66 breaking ball as well. Projects best as a position player, where his athletic ability and potential to improve mechanically give him some upside.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
