01/18/2013 - 2013 Under Armour All-America Pre-Season Tournament Rodriguez setup well to hit, and showed some strength and speed in his stroke. He loaded his hands back well, but tended to land late and heavy on his stride foot - which tended to restrict the rotation of his core and reduce his swing to just his upper half. Despite this, he will still able to make solid contact and drive some balls to the gaps with a wood bat. He has hand-eye coordination to work with, has a chance to really take off as a hitter with better rhythm and a softer stride. Defensively, he showed a strong arm across the infield. He tended to sit back on balls and was generally defensive with his glove action, fielded the ball deep and had some excess steps from the play on the ball into the release. We saw him in the OF in October, and his defensive skills seem much better suited there than in the infield.
