Official Scouting Report

  • Class Rating
  • SS/RHPPosition Projection

06/21/2013 - USA Baseball 17U Championships Brandon showed as a SS and on the mound for the first time at the event but currently projects best at SS for the next level where he continues to show outstanding baseball abilities in his play. Feet are quick, athletic as he moves well laterally, displaying range in the MIF. He works to get around balls and plays through well, displaying soft / sure hands. Throws display life, accuracy and on line carry through his target. At the plate, he continues to shine through an athletic setup with balance / rhythm. Hands are quick, generating plus bat speed through a level swing path. He has strength in his swing with the baseball jumping off the bat when centered. On the mound, fastball shows a range of 80-81 mph on a slight downhill plane. Breaking ball displays 11/5 shape with gradual break and shows potential as being a quality pitch when he stays on top. Command / control are a plus as throws strikes with all his pitches and changes speeds well. Mental makeup is a plus as he has a positive attitude and works hard to be the best player he can be and will get looks from the top collegiate coaches with his baseball abilities.

05/05/2013 - College PREP - Lakewood (Denver), CO Brandon is a very talented SS who has an athletic build. This left-handed swinger displays a simple approach but has the ability to jump on the ball and drive it to the gaps. He displays patience as he lets the ball travel into the zone and waits for his pitch. He has late explosion, using his lower 1/2 well and creating pop off of the barrel. Brandon gets out of the box quickly as he will be a top of the line-up type of guy. Defensively at SS, he moves well through quick and fluid footwork to get around the ground ball and into a square fielding position. He shows clean actions and makes the tough plays look effortless. Plus arm strength helps him make the play deep in the hole and fire it across the diamond. Salazar has a bright future in the game.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
