ADVANCED SWING METRICS BY SWINGTRACKER

Official Scouting Report

  • Class Rating
  • RHP/SSPosition Projection

12/27/2008 - Christmas Camp and Tournament - 2008 Watkins added two mph to his top end fastball velocity, getting it from 78 up to 80. His breaking ball velocity was up a bit as well, and the pitch flashed late downward action at times. For the most part, he was a strike thrower. His delivery was a bit out of sequence and inconsistent, which caused him some trouble at times. Needs to work to break his hands more in sequence with his lower half, and to stay more level and in line with his shoulders. Defensively, he showed some feel for the game along with the ability to position himself well. At the plate, he setup well but needs to work to eliminate bat wrap and needs to get his weight forward through contact. Ran 7.40 in the 60-yard dash, a little off the 7.31 we saw previously.

10/05/2008 - College PREP - Trenton, NJ Brandon is a young two way player on the mound and at SS with a tall, thin body that does show projection as it continues to fill out. Foot speed is slightly above average and needs to get on a speed / agility program to improve. Defensive abilities are average with a solid glove presentation. He fields balls down and out in front of his body and works into a quick transfer. Arm strength is average and needs to get on a strict long toss program to aid in developing more arm strength. On the mound, fastball is flat but does have solid command to both side of the plate. Breaking ball is near average and needs work to be a quality pitch at the next level. Change up and knuckle ball are average displaying a decent feel for. At the plate, Watkins has slightly above average ability and power. Set up is solid with solid bat speed. He displays a line drive type approach with hitting grades improving quickly with instruction and adjustments at the plate. With 2 years to further develop, Brandon has potential to become a solid player.

Tool Grade Scale

Our main goals with the BF "10-70" Scouting Scale are to provide the player with a realistic evaluation of his "PRESENT" abilities (what he can do today), and to provide college coaches with information they can use to identify and/or compare potential recruits.

Tools are graded for all players and pitchers, regardless of age or graduation year. However, for High School players we use only grades 20-70 (grades 10-18 do not apply), while for Middle School players we use only grades 10-52 (grades 55-70 do not apply).
